    I see the same thing a great deal, and also notice it with rpm.

    In my experience, it's mostly due to very subtle shifts in altitude, and the resulting effects on the prop. For instance you catch a thermal, are actually descending through air to hold your elevation, and you see a small change in mp and/or rpm.
