  • There are some pictures of Pat's setup here: https://www.backcountrypilot.org/forum/whee-s-bearhawk-project-progress-16507?start=140#p229312

  • ...with the right cable, that would be an interesting retro-fit. I'm interested!

  • OK. I missed that you were placing the cable between the torque tube and the trim tab. It didn't make much sense when I assumed that use of the torque tube implied the standard push rod and then using the cable to drive the torque tube....my bad.

  • I may be missing something, but if you use the existing torque tube, I suspect you will get exactly the existing servoing. It is the geometry/location of the arm hole for the trim tab links relative to the hinge line that causes the servoing.

  • Since I'm using a single large tab and electric trim, I keep wondering about a system similar to my RV-4 with the trim server in the base of the elevator. That is a concept that works better with thicker/airfoiled metal elevators than thin/slab fabric ones;...but I still keep thinking about it...

  • I did pretty much what Whee did. Well worth it! I've not had a chance to try a setup like Pat Fagan's, but based on my experience with my own plane, it should be the right thing to do. The servo action of the trim tab(s) makes for limited pitch stability so you can't leave the stick unattended for...

  • I suspect the problem was the trim tab setup. Mine has the large tabs and had the older, thinner tab links. Updating the links and then disabling one of the tabs changed it from divergent on pitch to nicely stable. By my understanding of aerodynamics, the stab incidence will have nearly nothing to...
