  • I just bought the STC for Cowl Louvers from the 180/185 Club ($5, woot!). Looking at the diagrams, etc. I can see that this version is the set of square louvers. I know I've seen a bunch of Skywagons with the Shark Gill version of cowl vents, too.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience flying both and if there was a measurable difference in the cooling performance between the two?

Skywagon7DM Our 185 and 182 both have cowl louvers (185 has the more square ones, 182 has the shark gill ones). Between the two I’ve never noticed a difference in one design cooling better than the other (I know they are different engines) but I think it’s just up to the owner on which one they think looks better.

Wow, another great trip and writeup, Zane! I really appreciate you taking the time to put your experiences up for us. It isn't always 100% about airplanes, either. The friends and memories we make are a huge part of our life's journey. The fact that airplanes are an excuse and enabling tool is just
