Fascinating. Really. But at the end, I conclude that the danger of using an axe without practice and practice and practice far outweighs its usefulness for me. I think that's true of a lot of tools--improperly used, they become dangerous. I have seen the ubiquitous Handyman Jack (now called a Hi-Lif
Yesterday my new puppydog Scout and I visited La Garita, by camper van. Nope, sorry folks, it's not open to fly in, although it appears that someone has flown in relatively recently. The upper smooth part...
Hi Cary, I see a tent photo on our profile. What tent are you using? I'm looking at tents and it looks like one I am considering. I want something I can stand up in vs crawling around..... Any recommendations?
I've had some private contacts, and I have answered all of them, but nothing shows as sent for the last 6 months. I can't tell if my responses went out at all. Is there something I need to do differently?...
The 3rd annual Lake Meredith Splash In will be this coming weekend, June 1st. I'm driving down Friday afternoon to help out, staying the weekend in my new motorhome.
It's located near Ordway, CO, north...
Yesterday I attended a Stop The Bleed course at one of our local hospitals. It was well presented by an ER nurse who had not only ER skills but who was an excellent presenter. It was about half lecture...
I have had a no-name twin USB port adapter to power my Stratus 2 and iPad Mini 4 for several years. My airplane is a 55 year old P172D, with the 12V electrical system modernized with an alternator conversion....
As anyone who has camped with me knows, I'm a "glamper"--all sorts of stuff for comfort, in a big tent, complete with cot, folding toilet, etc. The downside is weight, obviously, but I get away with it...
If the weather cooperates, the second annual SPA Lake Meredith splash-in will be held on May 20th. Lake Meredith is located near Ordway, CO, near La Junta, KLHX, which is the nearest airport. All seaplanes...
HELP! Every time I try to get onto the forum, I get a window that says I'm being redirected too many times, and I haven't the slightest idea how to get past that!
Yesterday the Seaplane Pilots Association, which continues to work on opening Colorado waters to seaplanes, had a get-together at a home in the Erie Airpark. The regional Cessna rep was there with a new...
I found these online, and they just arrived yesterday. I first saw them a couple of years ago, but put off getting them until recently, due to the cost. But a few days ago, I went up when it was pretty...
This probably won't be all-inclusive, but I thought after reading M3X's difficulty with Tiger over his helmet, I'd list businesses which have treated me well, which have provided good service along with...
YEE HAW! Back in the air! Friday I got my medical back, the nice folks at FAA Medical in OK City emailed it to me, and last night I went up and did 4 takeoffs and landings to a full stop. 3 were greasers;...
Cary,
You mentioned this in a recent post.
"they're HIDs, their power supplies generate a clicking sound over the radios"
I'm sure you and your mechanic know the usual things to check for eliminating this interference, I called the Manufacturer of some HIDs regarding this problem and they had a tune-able filter that removed it.

CaryI went up today, with a friend as PIC since I'm medically grounded temporarily, and purposely left them on the entire flight, which lasted 1.2 hours. My new headset (DC One-X) apparently does a better job of dampening out the interference, because although I could still hear them, it wasn't objectionable at all. I'll have to ask my friend if it bothered him at all, since he was wearing my old headset.
And yes, I do know about filters and such, but thanks for the reminder.
Hey ZZZ, for the last few days I've had to say I wasn't a robot before I could post. No big deal. Then I wrote a long response to TxAgFisher re part-time flying jobs, and it became ridiculous. First I...
Excellent article. Very persuasive in several ways:
A. I'll never hammock camp.
B. I'll never bivy camp.
C. I'll never Teepee camp.
D. Buy quality--with which I totally agree, if you're really going to use the equipment.
E. Tie down well, every tie down spot on the tent. Even a quality tent can be
