I flew my Maule (an MX7-180C) from Washington State to Maryland this past summer to see my kids and grandkids. That flight wound up being the basis for my Christmas card this year. I've got 145.5 hours...
This great little strip gives a taste of the backcountry while being close to where a lot of us live. Washington State owns and operates about a dozen airstrips in the state. Most are grass and many are...
Help: Not exactly backcountry focused, but there will be elements of backcountry flying involved. I'm planning to fly my Maule from just north of Seattle to Ocean City, Maryland this summer to spend time...
Has anybody used the EAA's experimental Test Cards and task Based Phase 1 testing for their certified aircraft? I just put a rebuilt engine in my Maule and had it flowed and ported. LyCon put it on the...
I've got an uncle that used to fly a 172 out of Pt Townsend. My grandfather had a Grumman Tiger in the mid-80's. Flew in and out of there a few times. Not sure if you would know him or if he was still flying out of the airport anymore, his Name is John Davis.

FlyhoundI don't know a John Davis, but there are a lot of folks at the airport I don't know. There aren't any Tigers based on the field that I know about. There is one Grumman TR2 that flies almost every day, but the 2 seater is a far cry from the Grumman Tiger. There are a LOT of hangar doors that I never see open though, so he and the plane might be around but aren't very active.
Alec is/was the guy behind the Double Ender - a fabulous machine that sparked a lot of interest, but had its challenges. Requiring a multi-engine rating to fly it was just the start of the issue list....
At the end of March, an administrative law judge rejected Trent Palmer's appeal regarding a low-pass inspection of an off-airport landing site. Unfortunately, that landing site was in a residential area...
Well, I don't log in on for most of my visits to BCP.org, so I don't always see when messages are posted to this group. Today is 4/12, my taxes are done, and I saw the sun for the first time in a week this AM. No backcountry flying today, but I'll probably head over to Seabiscuit Bakery at Whidbey Airpark (W10) for breakfast this morning. I just hope my plane hasn't forgotten how to fly...
I visited this place on a motorcycle camping tour over 30 years ago and swore I'd return in my own plane someday. Well, it took a while, but I finally made it. The forest fire season was slow to start...
I flew to Oshkosh from Washington State this year. Most of that trip involved paved runways in populated areas, but I was pleasantly surprised by how many airports across the plains had a grass strip available....
I'm thinking of flying my Maule from the Seattle area to New Mexico this fall to visit my daughter. I'm looking for some interesting fly-in camping on my trip. I've enjoyed airplane camping on dry lakebeds...
This beast of an airplane was all the rage a couple of years ago. Every once in while I get curious about interesting designs and do some digging to see if there is any news I've missed. On the DoubleEnder...
Any updates on the level of smoke in the general vicinity of Cavanaugh Bay, Sandpoint and Sullivan Lake? I'd like to make a final trip to Sullivan Lake (09S) before the state closes it the end of this...
What keeps me out of smoke when flying is a detailed analysis of what's in the smoke done by the University of Washington. Clouds, mist and fog are all water vapor, but smoke consists of tiny particles. These range in size from 0.4 - 0.7 microns. The particles are about the size of the wavelength of
I had a store bought tow bar that really wasn't up to the task of moving my Maule when the ground in front of the hangar was rough. That poor thing bent all over the place and failed several times. A...
