  • I have an opportunity to purchase a pair of little-used 29” Alaskan Bushwheels and an Gar Aero Alaska Tundra tailwheel. I would be replacing my wheel 8.00x6 tires and stock tailwheel. What I am most concerned with is the difference in takeoff and landing procedures with the fat tires. Comments from those familiar with both setups appreciated.

onthegas1 Big tire deal fell through and I am ok with that. I have done some research and read the BCP tire guide a few times. With most of my regular ops rolling for miles on pavement I went ahead and bought the Kenmore 8.50 STC. Not a quantum leap but even that minus the pants will help expand my operational desires. Thanks for the help. Roger, over.

  • Congrats on the Skywagon! I sure am enjoying mine. BTW, I am from the San Diego area. But that was 29 years ago. Did my private, instrument and CFI training at SEE ‘76-‘80. I flew my family down in May, first time into Gillespie in over 30 years. Lots of new hangars! Have fun and maybe someone in the 180/185 club could help with the Robertson question?

DigDug Thanks! Small world- I'm based out of Gillespie. Bought my C185 in Seattle less then a month ago and flew it back home. I loved my Maule but the Skywagon is a complete upgrade. Love this plane!
