This guy is living the life. If I was a wealthier man I might get my rotorcraft rating and follow suit, despite how scary these air beaters are (to me.)

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Re: Heli flying B.C. courtesy of iamkokonutz

He got famous around here a few years back for sliding his chopper thru the players of a hockey game staged on a remote high altitude lake. It had been all planned, but some youtubers took exception to his exceptional, but risky piloting skills and reported him to Transport Canada. He was called on the carpet over it. The video disappeared for a while but I think it's back on again. Those little choppers are getting very popular around here, several them head out everyday going someplace I'm sure that's interesting

Having just finished an intro heli lesson, I don't think this video is going to help my financial situation!

Great flying and scenery. Does anyone have coordinates for the waterfall?

Pm me and I can send you a GE location KMZ file

Edit- I forgot I can't create those anymore on this version. Cords are:

49°40'59.04"N 122°30'17.13"W

Back in 2012 I flew into the small glacial lake that is above those falls, and made an interesting discovery.
The place looks like the moon up there, not a stick of vegetation. Not surprising considering that just 10 years earlier, according to a government aerial photo, that whole area was filled with a glacier. I traipsed around there for a few hours and found the remnants of a crushed tree with its stump still firmly anchored into the ground. It had been protected from being scoured out by a substantial outcrop of solid rock.
Now scientist talk about global warming as a new phenomenon, Yet, this tree was growing at some time in history when at 5000’ it was warm enough and long enough to grow trees. The evidence was very telling. Sorry for the drift.

Well, whats another 63k, when your coming all the way from Elko NV  . The river valley is extremely narrow just to the South you won't want to take your eyes off the windscreen for too long. Gravel bars on that river are plentiful in late summer, but unfortunately very boney.

I was eyeing those gravel bars alright! Nothing like a first hand review so I'll have to put landing there out of my mind. Your a step ahead of me :D

Re: Heli flying B.C. courtesy of iamkokonutz

There is one great place you can actually land at, If your in the area, which is rare around these parts. Its beside a high mountain lake and in front of a glacier. it is has stunning scenery and has been rarely landed, if ever. it's about 350'+ usable, and if your on your game, it's not too difficult. It's soft sand, so bigger tires are best. There is usually a very favorable wind in the afternoon, that helps a heep. Bearhawk should have no problem.
Normally I keep these places secret, but hell these chopper jocks are multiplying like Chinese, and taking over the whole damned place. We fixed wingers have to put these guys in their place. Cords are
49°51'54.50"N 122°38'6.59"W
Go to the clock icon on GE and slide back to 2006 for the best view.
If your a rock freak, the place is heavily mineralized. I'm just a freak, but the rocks are cool.
I have some pictures of it in the photo album.

Very cool spot Sidewinder. Thank you!

I hope to up that way this summer with the plane.

Always hard to judge from GE, but it looks like land to the east, takeoff to the west?

Negative, Maybe, very early in the morning, but most cases your approaches and takeoffs will be to the West, Easy go around though, if things don't look good.

Hi Sidewinder, where are you based out of? I am based out of Langley and it looks like we share the same playground. We should share a coffee over a camp fire on a local gravel bar or just a coffee shop someday.

Black Rock if you come up this way we have lots of places to play within a 1 hr flight. Many many gravel bars, west coast beaches, remote strips etc.etc. We also have 3 Bearhawks, a bunch of big motor big tired 180's, Scouts, Turbine Marchetteies that would love to go play. Let me know when you plan on coming up to play in my back yard. Short notice works good around here as that is kinda standard practice.

Thanks Ken! I'll make it up that way this summer, I'm pretty sure. At least I'm planning on it so will definitely look you up. You you're making me feel right at home and would enjoy joining up with your gang for some fun flying adventures.

The company I work for has an office in Van, so I just need to forego the smoker ticket and take the Bearhawk. Hopefully Sidwider can join us to or at least I would hope to meet up with him as well.

Hey Ken. I'm based up country now, in the interior, better weather, better challenges and cheaper and available hangerage, But I'm at YNJ 3 days a week at the Flight Museum. I believe you know Ray F, our Chief engineer. He and I are on the Pup project Tue, Thur and Sat. If you come on by Tuesdays, we got a Korean Gal volunteer that makes great coffee and muffins, Lets just say it's not one of our most productive days.

Blackrock,

Look forward to seeing you up here in the summer. I'm one of the local Bearhawk guys and do some flying off Ken's wing. Check out the BC General Aviation Association, both Ken and I are heavily involved in it and membership is free and there is a nifty google based map with all sorts of landing spots that arent on the public map. www.bcaviation.ca

ps. Im out of town July 23-Aug3 so keep that in mind if you want to see 3-4 BHs together.

Thanks Baloo,

I look forward to meeting you. Not sure when I'll be up your way yet, possibly June, though. I'll check out the BCGAAA link. I've always thought I should spend more time flying and camping in BC so this year is the time to start. Having 4 GH's together would be a lot of fun; you guys must have a fantastic playground to fly in.
