  • I'm looking for a part I can't find in the IPC. Fuel drain (sump -- under the wing thing) for 1981 A185F, s/n 18504181. Eyeballing the Spruce catalog, it looks like maybe "Cessna Drain Valve S2020-2." Does that seem right?

  • Anyone have a weight and balance profile for their 180 in foreflight to share? (not using for real flight planning) - thank you!

  • Hey gang, I'm looking for a CAD drawing for a late model skywagon panel I'm prepping for glass panel upgrade. Does anybody have a file they'd be willing to share?

  • hey guys, doing a panel upgrade on my 65' 185D. Does anyone know the height measurement from top of yoke on panel to top of panel? I am trying to get a g3x touch in 10 inch but the avionics shop is telling me there is not enough height for it to fit? I know it will have to be off center but did not know there was not enough height.

  • I finally bit the bullet and purchased a 180. I am based in the Seattle area and wanted to know if anyone knew of a CFI with 180 time that would be able to help me get some dual time for proficiency/insurance purposes. Thanks!

Big Sky-Wagon Craneis, I have a friend (CFII) in the port Angeles area. If not to much out of the way for you. Dave 4067883205. He’s not a time builder and one of the best ga pilots I know with tons of tw time

  • I’m looking for info on putting 26” Goodyear’s on my 180. Where do you get them and how do you get them approved? Thx

Wilson I gotcha. Thanks for the info.

  • I have an opportunity to purchase a pair of little-used 29” Alaskan Bushwheels and an Gar Aero Alaska Tundra tailwheel. I would be replacing my wheel 8.00x6 tires and stock tailwheel. What I am most concerned with is the difference in takeoff and landing procedures with the fat tires. Comments from those familiar with both setups appreciated.
    2019-03-13 00:05:06
onthegas1 Big tire deal fell through and I am ok with that. I have done some research and read the BCP tire guide a few times. With most of my regular ops rolling for miles on pavement I went ahead and bought the Kenmore 8.50 STC. Not a quantum leap but even that minus the pants will help expand my operational desires. Thanks for the help. Roger, over.

  • Does anyone want to buy the Robertson STOL kit I have on my C185? I plan on removing it the first quarter of 2019.
    2018-12-19 16:14:14
Barnstormer Adding wing extensions will effectively move your ailerons inboard, feeling about the same now as it does with your Robertson. If you are landing in a crosswind that is strong enough you think the Robertson is affecting you ability to maintain runway alignment than you shouldn't be using third or fourth notch of flaps, and probably not the second either. What backcountry strips that you plan on landing on have stout crosswinds?

  • I am considering purchasing a 1955 180 with "Cross Wind Landing" Gear. I believe to be factory installed and possibly made by Goodyear. I understood that parts were hard to find, and some mechanics don't want to mess with it. Is this something I should plan on replacing?

13 Thanks, that is what I thought. Also, the plane has been sitting in a barn with very little use for almost 40 years. It has had an annual every year, but some years only 2 hrs ( the flip side is that it only has 2k hrs.). I am going this weekend to look at it. Are there some particular places I should look for rodent damage? And lastly, I understand from the mechanic who has inspected it for most of the 40 yrs that there is some play in the horizontal stabilizer bushings, and this might need a rebuild. Any estimate on what costs might be?

  • Hey Everyone. I'm a new C185 owner (previously had a Maule). Does anyone have any experience installing a Robertson STOL kit?
    2018-07-19 16:08:31
DigDug I actually have the R/STOL. I heard there was a way to disconnect it and I've been trying to find someone who has the STC. If possible, I'd rather disconnect it and fly it before making the decision to remove if all together.

  • I just bought the STC for Cowl Louvers from the 180/185 Club ($5, woot!). Looking at the diagrams, etc. I can see that this version is the set of square louvers. I know I've seen a bunch of Skywagons with the Shark Gill version of cowl vents, too.

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience flying both and if there was a measurable difference in the cooling performance between the two?
    2018-04-11 17:13:22
Skywagon7DM Our 185 and 182 both have cowl louvers (185 has the more square ones, 182 has the shark gill ones). Between the two I’ve never noticed a difference in one design cooling better than the other (I know they are different engines) but I think it’s just up to the owner on which one they think looks better.

Arguably the most prolific and capable do-it-all tailwheel aircraft ever manufactured by Cessna, the 180/185.

C180 Middle (jump) seat shoulder harness options - Hooker?

I know in my 170B there are nut plates behind the rear seat on the bulkhead that's at the forward edge of the baggage compartment that could be used for fixed shoulder harnesses. I haven't checked to see if they are there on my 180 but I imagine they are. Just check under the headliner. You'll probably have to loosen the screws that holds in one of the wire headliner retainers and look behind that.

    0470 running rough
    upnorth180

Thanks Akair, I should have posted long ago on this topic. The mags were the culprit. Upon installing a new O/H set and new plugs, it ran like a top. Couldn't be happier with the performance.

    Firewall mounted batteries

I have the Burl's box. It's STC'd and seems to be doing it's job well. You'll love getting rid of the big battery, associated cable and other junk!

Rebuild generator, or do alternator conversion?
    Oregon180

I think the weight difference is about 4 lbs between the old generator and the Plane power. In the process I got rid of an old oil dilution unit and associated tubing on the firewall which saved more weight. I've been really happy with the conversion, especially together with the firewall battery.
