It is absolutely critical that pilots who endeavor to fly into remote regions and mountainous areas first receive specialized instruction. This is a discipline of aviation that is often underestimated and even misunderstood. It is the ultimate amalgam of seat-of-the-pants visceral flying, and the more academic disciplines of navigation, instrument flying, and weather interpretation.

  • I have a nephew in Longview Wa thinking about getting started on his PPL. He is only 15 and the Kelso Airport is very close to him which would make it easy for him to get to. Anyone have any experience with the flight school in Kelso? Know of any instructors in the area?

  • Does anyone have a current recommendation for some tailwheel backcountry instruction in the Whitefish/Kalispell area? I'm heading up there in two weeks and want to apply my SoCal city slicker tailwheel experience to something more challenging. Someone mentioned Perry Brown in an older thread I found, but I don't know if he's still instructing. Thanks.
