Good god it was -40 to -50 for 15 straight days and a big chinook blows in and 72 hours later we have 50 ABOVE. Only in interior Alaska.

Yea, I talked to my wife yesterday and she said it was 42 on the thermometer there in North pole on the way in to work and made note that it had been -42 on the way home just a couple of days prior. This can't be making the roads very fun there at night.

No....not "only in Alaska". In Northern Montana we have seen the same swing...-40 to +60. I suspect N. Dakota is in the same boat. R

Our swing in Anchorage wasn't quite that big, but it was significant. 2 days ago FBX was warmer than Houston and ANC was warmer than New Orleans. btw, all the Cheechakoos think it's Spring up here!!!!!!!!!!! lolol

Is it just me? I think the roads in the Fairbanks area are the worst I've ever seen them! Never seen the ice stay on the road so long. Usually traffic wears it off, but this year is wicked slippery
And I for one wish those Cheechakoo's were right. It's been to cold to ski fly! But March is just around the corner

Same with the Parks highway- the 130 miles from Denali to Talkeetna is pretty near solid ice, except that the road graders and plows have potholed the ice surface, so it handles like washboards made of ice. -33F here this morning, so ski flying isn't really a viable alternative for getting to town.
