Flight:
Came around airport just in time to see hanger door drop on 175 tail cone -just ahead of Horizontal Stab >Ouch -will talk to owner tomorrow about selling it.If I can get it right 2-3 week fix up.Thinking of adding IO-360(more long term) and tail wheel-mod for mini 180.

Ouch! is right. When I was stationed at EDF eons ago, one of the helicopters in the rescue squadron was cut in half by a hangar door. When I was still at Downtown Fort Collins, I had a cable snap as the door was being raised. It didn't drop all the way, but one side dropped, putting a lot of strain on the other cables, so I didn't even move my airplane out until it was repaired. Lesson: Don't ever leave an aircraft (or anything else or anyone) under an open hangar door! Especially don't leave anything or anyone under one that is moving up or down, which is the time most come loose.

The Charbroiler is still one of the best for steaks anywhere. If I hadn't just finished lunch, the thought would make my mouth water.
The sad thing is that the airport property has never been developed as promised, so now we have an abandoned airstrip instead of the "high tech park" that the developer promised. Yet another case of massive shortsightedness on the part of a lot of folks, most especially the city council.

Have you heard what is going to happen to the old downtown airport? Do you think it will ever open again? I used to love stopping there.

Nothing but unsubstantiated rumors. For the moment, that's like saying "I don't know". I will post if I hear anything. I do know that there was some litigation that went up on appeal, but the lawyer handling it for the aviation interests died a few months ago, and I haven't heard anything since.

My sister works for Larmier County in Ft.Collins -In the computer geek section .It be great If they reopened the old Downtown Airport but not vary likely .I'd really like to see it so I could get access to the Charbroiler -there also was (is) a big Mexican food place ,lots of Banana Margiaetes . Last time I walked the runway in mid 2000's runway was very ruff -I flew in and out in Helicopter .

Them garage doors have many stories. While at the FD my favorite was a young mom. She pushed the down button and ran for the now closing door. She knew she had to jump over the sensor which was only 6" off the floor. Well she jumped to high and hit her head. Seeing how she was in the air at the time she started a backwards cartwheel. She was stunned buy the door but was completely knocked unconscious when her head hit the concrete. We knew this happened because her friend was in the car and watched the whole event. We ask why she didn't use the remote. Evidently she forgot her purse and went back to get it. For some reason she thought the run and jump was a good idea. Oh and she was a good looking blond.
