182 W&B light front tire?

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

182 W&B light front tire?

I carry 50 pounds at the most rear baggage area and with this I had the plane just in the middle of the CG 39 inches.
Behaves very nicely, with this CG and the Sportsman kit just me and half fuel, its a nice fun performer.

Im doing a couple mods to my 182 P.
MT prop 2 blade (15 pounds less)
Selkirk extended baggage
I did a new weight and balance calculation ,and with the new prop plus 25 pounds at rear of the new extended baggage, and the old 50 pounds removed.
Now will be at the same CG with 40 pounds less.

Since Im at this. I Need to buy a new front tire so wanted a light one, anyone knows about a brand? 5 x 5.00 6 ply. (I know wont be much ,but if I can get it why not).
Also I might keep a bit more weight in the new extended baggage, maybe 30 or 40 pounds, to have a CG a bit more to the rear.
Now the more the rear CG the most abrupt the stall correct? I know will be at lower speed but the stall will be more violent?
I do lots of stalls the way the plane is now and its very docile, but never have done stalls with the plane full of people and heavy which is usually with a rear CG.

If you are installing a brand new (spell EXPENSIVE) propeller, I'd be wanting to go to a LARGER nosewheel on that thing to give you as much propeller ground clearance as possible.

You won't change the CG that much with a slightly different size tire, but you sure will create a lot more prop damage....

And, of course, always use good control positioning and some common sense when it comes to where you do run ups.

MTV you are totally right.
What I need the largest front tire.(more important now than lighter)
I will be adding 1 inch to the prop so less clearance. (83" MT prop VS old prop 82" Hartzell )

Now which is the largest 5.00 x 5 6 ply tire?

What about a 206 front fork and a 7.00 x 6 on the nose? I think it's listed on the TCSD.

Air trac 5.00-5 has about 1" clearance on my jmodel stock saddle . Air up the strut for more prop clearance.

Does the Air Trac sinks a bit since its softer coumpound?
I have 1.5 " clearance with Michellin, so will be gainging 1/2' with the Airtrac.

How much more air can be put in the fork?

From a practical standpoint, I suppose you could jack it up 3-4". I used to run bigger mains with a stock nose wheel so I kept it pumped up the width of my hand to keep it level. Now that I have stockers all the way around, it's about 3 fingers. Just don't land on it. I'm not sure what the legality of my getup was, hence, the stockers are back on. The Airtrac is kind of a football shaped tire and they say they're for grass, mine only touches the asphalt for 1000' every cycle so it's wearing pretty well even for mostly hard surface use. It weighs 6.3 pounds according to the box. It doesn't sink at all the way I have it inflated.

Re: 182 W&B light front tire?

Another thing that we did in AK with our 206 nose struts is clamp a short 2 to 3 inch piece of heavy hose material around the bottom of the strut, using hose clamps. This prevents the nose strut from fully compressing, even if it's gone flat.

In any case, I'd get as much prop clearance as possible. 182s aren't notorious for great prop clearance anyway...
