Re: 1953 Cessna 180

Do you think much engine noise comes in there?

I thought so since the mufflers are just ahead of the rudder pedals. I still have the original carpet like cover from the air duct down but the plastic covered fiberglass is poor from the duct up. I still have the .187 thick windshield and close in wing vents so who knows.

I saw this one today at GXY. I even left my table to go out to look at it. Absolutely gorgeous. Not exactly set up for backcountry work, but a real honey. All leather plush interior, all glass panel including engine instruments, shiny, shiny, shiny--total restoration, and not a scratch that I could see. Pretty nice for a 62 year old airplane! Actually, it looked like it could be a 2 month old airplane, if Cessna was still making 180s.

The owner has a private airstrip about 20 miles from GXY and invited me to drop in some time. Of course, I have to get my airplane back first!

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Man that's a lot of elbow grease to keep that thing polished. He must have lackies to help out. ;-)

When are we going to visit? ;-D

Cary, did Beegle's ever rebuild it? Some 29 inch Bushwheels and it'd be a perfect 10.

Just get a good ANR headset. That is a must for any light aircraft.

Re: 1953 Cessna 180

After building headers etc. for my plane it got real loud.. stupid loud. It has a muffler, but it's a joke... the power increase outweighs the noise though. I have a lightspeed anr headset, and it just gets the job done. My issue is that my mic pics up engine noise and it makes me hard to understand... I'm just really enjoying having to throttle back to talk on the radio  #-o

I have played with some sound deadening material from aircraft spruce. Thin stuff though to keep the weight down. So far it has done, well, pretty much absolutely nothing to quiet it down. FWIW. The thicker stuff might make an actual difference [-o<
