1956 182 ltail wheel gearbox?

I read on here somewhere that a 1956 182 has both gearbox for tail wheel and trike, I can’t find the link. IThere is a very nice 56 model for sale here and considering doing the conversion if it’s possible.

Re: 1956 182 ltail wheel gearbox?

When I looked into converting my ‘56 C-182 to tailwheel several years ago I had heard/read the same thing. Unfortunately, that was not the case. It did, however, have the bulkheads for installing the gear boxes. My conversation took around six months and cost approximately $15K in parts.

The '56 182 I have in the shop right now does not have the TW gear boxes.

The holes for the gearbox parts are pre punched in the bulkheads, but none of the parts are installed on the early 182's and 172's. If you're looking to do a conversion I've got all the main gearbox parts for one.

Ok I guess it was to good to be true. It’s the first time I have seen a long legged 56 model. My wife said while I was taxiing out to the runway it reminded her of seeing a foal taking its first steps it felt that way inside the cockpit also.
