The fly-in will be at JC again, it's just a great spot. We have a reservation for the campsite already.

I have really crappy internet access right now...will be home on friday and will post about it.

24 degrees this am with a dusting of snow at BNO. I see Johnson Creek is white too. Myself I would give up internet access for the warmer weather.

If you guys fly in to J.Ck. this summer, be ready to expect a hell of a change in the surrounding country. The fires this summer really razed hell.
Almost got the airport and Yellowpine.
Yellowpine is such an oasis in the surrounding burned area that they have had to kill about five or six marauding hungry bears in town this fall so far.

Hey I missed her 18th birthday out elk hunting. Told my wife 18 years and 3 months ago that she better hold out until after elk season. However to keep the home front happy I had better make the graduation.

Boy, I would love to come out and attend the fly in. The problem is that it has to be a good two and a half days of flying for me to get there. That is just a little too much.

I guess I will just have to vicariously live it through your pictures and stories. So have Zane's chair hoist one for me!

2.5 days flying time is definitely not worth it to hang out with a bunch of grumpy rednecks in a fire ravaged wasteland...

We really need to just have an Eastern version of the fly-in I think. We have enough guys from the east coast to make it happen...I would even hop a smoker to head back there and visit. Could be fun...

Well, I will tell you Zane, if you think an East coast Backcountry Pilot fly in would be fun I will volunteer to organize it.

In fact, my home airport is a private 2,700 ft grass field in the heart of the Poconos. It can easily hold 15 to 20 aircraft with room for camping. There is even a couple of country motels close by. There are some nice places to fly within 30 - 45 minutes of the field for food or just visiting, like Grimes Airfield (early 20's to 40's flying museum) and Van Sandts (home to 13 Stearman).

Damn Rod, that place looks sweet! Maybe not quite as backcountry...more "sidecountry" but then again Johnson Creek isn't exactly backcountry either What's the closest major airline service airport?

I think it's a grand idea.

Zane, it would be tough finding an east coast equivelant of JC, you guys have all the really good backcountry spots! Maybe in Maine (Oh no! Tax me!), New Hampshire or Vermont. But we do have nice grass strips around PA and vicinity.

Nearest commerical airport is Lehigh Valley (ABE). Cheaper but further, is Newark or Philly.

Lets hear from some of the other guys and gals in the NE. Any interest?

This is my first time on this site for any kind of message...hope it works.
Flew to Idaho in August 07 for the first time. First landing was at Garden Vally for an overnight stay. Then on to Cascade, McCall, New Meadows, Stanley, with an overnight at Smiley Creek. Then on up north to Sulivan Lake, Cavanaugh Bay, Sandpoint, and two nights at Magee. Really wanted to go to Big Creek, Johnson Creek, Indian Creek, and Soldier Bar but these places were smoke bound.We originally started out with four planes but were down to three for most of the Idaho trip.
I would be interested in returning for a get together at JC or any other area strip.

Another fly in is the Petit Jean (MPJ) fly in with the 170 Association in May. Looks like this year's will be in late May which means that it won't conflict with the Alaska Airmen's Show.
