Re: 206 Annual and 8.50 tire upgrade

Brett,

Quite some time back (ten years???) our outfit started removing those miserable altitude compensating fuel pumps from our 550s in 206s. Made a huge difference in our cylinder longevity.

That said, the 550 is a very different engine than the 520, particularly when it comes to leaning. The good news is that the Atlantic conversion comes with some really great and useful power charts. Those really help to understand the leaning procedures on these engines. Leaning is prohibited during operations in excess of either 70% or 75 % power, depending on which 550 you're operating. And, these are a 300 hp full rated engine, not a 285 hp engine with five minutes at 300, like the 520.

Mark and Nathan are sharp guys. They both worked on our 206s, so they are very familiar with the 206 and the 550 engine.

Glad to hear you're getting these issues resolved.....stuff like this makes me absolutely crazy till I get it fixed.

I've found through the years that asking for an estimate from an honest service provider of any type will most times cost more than just cutting them loose on the job. Hopefully you feel that it could have been worse when you get the bill.

They've got the fuel line connector installed into the tank. It's currying for the night. They're expecting to seal the tank closed tomorrow and pressure test Sunday into Monday. Fingers crossed.

Re: 206 Annual and 8.50 tire upgrade

Pressure test showed very slight leaking at the fuel sump drain and the vent tube on the outboard side. Both got some attention and the tank held a half pound all morning. Got the access covers back on. Should be installing the wing start of next week. Exciting.

Still a little sad looking with one wing missing.

Re: 206 Annual and 8.50 tire upgrade

I know this is an older post but I found it when wondering what tires to put on my 206.

I don't think a field approval is required to run 8.50’s on the mains and 800 on the nose for any of the 206 models below that are equipped with the AIRGLAS PA32-206LA NOSE FORK.

206, P206, P206A, P206B, P206C, P206D, P206E, U206, U206A, U206B, U206C, U206D, U206E, U206F, U206G, TP206A, TP206B, TP206C, TP206D, TP206E, TU206A, TU206B, TU206C, TU206D, TU206E, TU206F, TU206G, 206H, T206H

The Supplement Flight Manual that accompanies the Airglas SA02069AK STC was revised on Feb, 9 2015 to include these tire combinations:

One caveat is that on U206F, TU206F, U206G and TU206G if you have Flint Aero tip tanks then the 3 tires must be the same.

STC: https://drs.faa.gov/browse/excelExterna ... 276EE.0001
Supplement Flight Manual: http://www.airglas.com/Portals/6/NWDS_S ... 206%20.pdf

It's possible I am misinterpreting this and a field approval still is necessary to run 8.50s and 800s, lmk if I'm missing something.

Nope, you're correct. Easiest way to upsize tires on a 206, legally.

Re: 206 Annual and 8.50 tire upgrade

Just to add more tire info

I went with 700s all around. stance is awesome. Used the forged HD fork. The clearance with the 700 tire required a shim to not rub the fork. but it works!

Which motor do you have hanging on there Cameron? Those big stacks hanging out the bottom were a nice sight this morning... haha

Very nice. I'd love to get my 206 switched over, but they've pretty much closed those doors now...
