2790s on good grass
Information and discussion about seaplanes, float planes, and water operations.
Howdy all
What’s everyone’s thoughts on basing a 185 on 2790s out of a grass strip with 2500’ of good grass
Thanks

There are too many variables to answer that question intelligently. Suggest narrowing your parameters; DA, loading, approach/departure obstacles for example. Once one has the factual operating parameters, we must look at the operator parameters and risk acceptance (does one desire an abort option among many other operator experience variables). Any parameter that effects performance must be considered (calculated) to arrive at a factual answer to your question. Therefore, the answer is "it depends". Any amphibious equipped aircraft is already operating at a disadvantage, the answer to your question lies in the remainder of the performance effecting variables. A good answer and good decisions can only be made with good data. TR

Have we found MTV's replacement?
To the OP, they should handle "good Grass" just fine. Never be far from your grease gun...

Ouch! Tough to see with that sharp stick in my eye. Sure, you take the easy answer once the actual question is properly defined. You have to admit that was a very large net cast for what was a fairly pointed desired objective once clarified. OP should have asked specifically what was desired to begin with. All good

Ya’ll were too hard on MTV. I learned more about flying and airplanes from his posts than anyone else here.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Easy Big Boy! Notice the smiley things...all in good fun. If you DO NOT get a tasteful poke every now and then, that means we don't like you in the aviator community I come from. One more time...all good

Good question. Anyone, which thread do we need to read to find the answer?
