3M Abrasion Tape

I've been helping with a "rolling restoration" on a C170B for the past year. So far the Sportsman is on, I got her on a bit bigger tires, extended baggage is in, and Atlee jumps are in the back. She's getting to be a pretty cool airplane...

Last week, I shot a new coat of Imron on the belly, gear legs, and struts. Its a super tough paint, but to keep the rock chips down, I have been using 3M abrasion tape lately. Its pretty bomb proof and pretty easy to install. On my Wagon, I ran the tape all the way up the strut. On this C170B, I just covered the prop arc. Thought I'd share.

Re: 3M Abrasion Tape

I just repainted my plane a few month ago and used crystal guard on the areas where people drag their feet getting in the plane and a few other high abrasion areas. It's a clear coat with a bit of give to it, almost like a flex agent. It's a product that my buddy uses on RV's to prevent the rock chips after he repaints them. It's crystal clear and looks like any other clear coat. Try it out sometime. It is a bit expensive, but I can't say enough good things about the stuff

Greg, did you use the 3M Polyurethane 8.0 mil protective tape #8672? Great idea!

Better yet, tell him he should join BCP if he hasn't already.
