404 errors on forum topics? Delete cookies and then log in

Some change I made recently invalidated old cookies and causes many forum topics to generate 404 errors. It seems that the fix is to once again delete your backcountrypilot.org cookies. If you can't selectively delete them, just delete all cookies. Clear your cache for good measure.

Then login. The issue appears to be for users who have never logged in after clearing cookies.

The site is running much faster than it has since launch, so if it seems otherwise, try this simple action of deleting cookies and clearing cache, then login. It's ok if you logout afterward, you just have to login successfully once.

If you talk to other BCP users outside the forum, pass this tip on. It's a bug and will get fixes soon, but this is a temp solution.

Update:

Things should be functioning a little more smoothly now. It's still a good idea to delete cookies but as Oregon180 and I discovered this morning, it wasn't the only issue causing the problem.

Well, not really. Some of these issues I create myself while chasing site speed. It's like blowing up your engine because you put too high compression pistons in. 8)

This latest issue as an example of that.

Yup. Great job!

For the nerds in the crowd, care to share a summary of what the speed suck was?

Also, when are new users going to be welcome again? I have some folks waiting in the wings (so to speak).

We could do that in a private forum or group. I prefer to not discuss technical details for the world to read about.

I was shooting for this week. I have some testing to do. Opening up registration can open up a world of headaches in the way of spammers, hackers, etc, and I prefer to have it tightened up before flipping the switch.
