Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

About ten years ago a B747 landed at Shelton, WA. There was an aircraft dismantler based at the airport and was working with mostly B727's. The B747 was one which was used in several movies and had been out of service for some time. Shelton rwy 23 is 100' wide and 5005' long, an old WWII airbase. The pilot was a retired United Captain and in an effort to minimize damage to the asphalt touched the wheels in the gravel prior to the threshold to get the tires spinning so they would not damage the asphalt surface upon contact. Something I wouldn't think about. The crane company I worked for then removed the engines and they put all those pieces back on the shelf.
