7GCBC Extended Baggage

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

7GCBC Extended Baggage

Was wondering if anybody has installed or fabricated an extended baggage in a Citabria or Scout? I'm doing a complete recover and have relocated battery. Tried to find some pictures, but not having any luck. I know it wont hold very much due to the limited CG but anything helps.

Re: 7GCBC Extended Baggage

American champion makes kit for a baggage door and extended baggage. I think they want 800 for the extended baggage kit. Pricy, but maybe they could supply you with pictures? If you are going to go with the extended baggage I highly recommend a baggage door, especially if recovering. Rainbow Ron. Also makes a baggage door, but it is not stcd. His is a bolt in style while AC's is weld in.

Re: 7GCBC Extended Baggage

There's a video of Owens Aviation showcasing a Scout with pretty good detail. They show the baggage extension, not full cabin height and width, more like a ski extension in the trunk of a BMW. With the battery on the firewall you are probably nose heavy, especially if you still have that "old school" starter, so some weight in the back will be ok.

Video:

Like A1 Skinner (David) says, put the baggage door on at the same time. AC says they can even install it in an already covered airplane without a lot of disruption. Metal belly too while you have it stripped.

From a mechanics standpoint, metal belly is great! I have one citabria with a metal belly I work on and one with out. The one with the metal belly is great come annual time. Well worth the weight.

Re: 7GCBC Extended Baggage

I have a metal belly on my High Country..comes off in three sections in about 7 minutes (there are actually 4 sections out I do not take the small section at the tail off). Saves a LOT of time at annual!. I also have the baggage door. I've seen the extended baggage section on a brand new HC.

Re: 7GCBC Extended Baggage

Wow. I would have been happy to just have a baggage door on my old Citabria let alone extended baggage. Good idea!

Re: 7GCBC Extended Baggage

A little off-topic but I checked out a Selkirk extended baggage kit installed in a C172 yesterday. Very nice.
