Man, just when you think you have seen it all. Here’s the setup, went to change oil yesterday plugged my 5/8” hose to my quick drain and, dribble, at best. I had dinner commitments so I left it to drain for the night. Returned to the plane today, maybe a quart has come out and nothing flowing, *#”%#&@*$! So now drop lower cowl, remove quick drain. Now, I have never seen one of these before so once out, I pushed it up. At first I thought there was a brass check ball in there. Started washing the valve off in gas and what I thought was check ball is in lots of pieces. At first I though “oh no!” Brass, bearing coming apart. But on closer inspection I realize it’s bits of leaf and/or insect! I realize the entire tube is filled with it. I eventually got it all out, did my best to feel around bottom of pan for more, didn’t see any.
Two nagging questions. 1. How in the world did a leaf get in my oil pan.
2. If quick drain was full what else? Oil pickup screen, any return line screen, I have a spin on filter, I assume this means the original oil screens were removed?
