Re: A&P seeks advice from old & wise BCP'ers

Grant aviation had a sign on the ticket counter in Kenai yesterday saying they were looking for an A&P.

Hillcrest Aircraft in Lewiston is a BELL service center. Always needs summer/year round help. Top notch outfit. Don't count on being around much. Fire season is their bread & butter. There phone is 208-746-8271. D.O.M. is Kelly Bean.

My mechanic is located at Palmer, Alaska and is looking to retire. He has a hangar and tie-downs on a leased lot at Palmer Airport (PAAQ) and is asking $300k. His name is Tom Bishop and the name of his business is Nugget Aviation: 907-745-2344. Don't know if you are interested in this sort of business opportunity, but it's something to consider.

Re: A&P seeks advice from old & wise BCP'ers

Thanks guys, lots of great advice as usual. I would like to reply to some of you specifically, but I am on the road in eastern WA and only have my Droid, I think my thumbs would die if I tried that.
I have it figured out. I will be flying to Anchorage and then King Salmon on June 1rst.
I am taking a Pelican mobile tool chest, and a backpack. It is exactly the kind of adventure I was looking for, and thanks to a BCP member who PM'd me, I found it.
With the response I have gotten from BCP, and from simply sending my CV to everyplace that looked the least bit interesting in Alaska, I would recommend A&P work to anyone who loves airplanes, has mechanical talent, can get the certificate, and needs work. I didn't feel that way when I left the trade in 1996 and went with motorcycles.
Thanks again you guys. I will update as things progress.

Nice meeting you today at Matt's, sounds like you are beginning a fun and adventurous journey. Good luck. Perhaps we will run into each other again in Alaska.

19 years ago, during a summer break from college, I was lucky enough to land a "job" guiding at King Salmon Lodge, I hope you like it up there as much as I did.

David, we could really use an experienced A&P in our rebuild shop and have immediate openings (more work than we can handle!). Sounds like you have a plan for Alaska for the summer but keep us in mind if it doesn't work out or when you get back. We have an engineer who lives near Chelan and has an apartment here where he stays during the week, maybe you guys could partner up to keep expenses down.

Randy,

I have kicked myself for not jumping at the opportunity ever since I came down to see the factory. I think I need to get some adventure out of my system before settling into a place like Cubcrafters, but I am still think about it.
How could I not, you guys build the most awesome back country aircraft available today.
