Aeropod Adventures

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Aeropod Adventures

I loaded up the family last week to head for Sun N Fun from Denver. I didn't take too many pictures, but I found a few cool ones so I thought I'd share.

The night airshow was punctuated by a light rain storm that ended up lasting all night. We woke up to more rain, and once it stopped, the field we were camped in seemed to drain to our campsite. As the morning progressed, the water at our site got deeper.

My kids ate a soggy breakfast sitting in an inch of water.

But we had good parking! right next to the can!

On the way home, we got to park next to a Guppy.

All in all, we traveled just over 3000 NM in about 24 hrs. I didn't add up the fuel yet because I'm not sure I want to know.

Re: Aeropod Adventures

Nice work! That's a heck of a trip with two little ones in tow. Glad to see some hours being put on the 185, those are the best memories.

That last picture is a keeper. =D>

I didn't want to figure fuel costs either, but then again, I flew Southwest. With my Awards points total cost of flight was $11.00 from Albuquerque.

I fly for an airline for work, the last thing I want to do on a day off is get in a jet...

Actually the last thing I want to do is deal with the average big airport terminal, TSA (That's the Tub Stacking Assn), flight attendants, pax.....if someone gave me a jet to fly without all that, I'd love to.

I printed that last pic for J's mother's day gift. Then I suggested we go fly to lunch yesterday. We loaded up the wagon and talked my old man in to going to. I'm a lucky guy, she wants to go fly on HER day.

I was chasing him around and remembered that I had the camera on the wing so here is 3 minutes that may be cool, or you may wish I hadn't wasted your time. I know it was fun doing it and I like it...

Re: Aeropod Adventures

I feel like Alex and I haven't gotten much time just Dad and Son. So we loaded up on Sunday for a lunch run. My buddy Bob suggested Walsenburg so I let him plan the day and I played tail end charlie following him and my dad. Alex is big enough to enjoy the front seat so I took a few pics.

He didn't take his hands off the yoke from the time we got in until we were past CO Springs, then he had to adjust his headset. Once that was fixed, hands back on the yoke.

Legal weed in CO has lead to a lot of interesting things, one of which is interesting construction out on the plains. Ive seen monster greenhouses popping up all over.

Alex was working hard.

Alex was excited about this sign since mama is always catching snakes around the house, but we didn't see any. The airport manager is Gary. He's retired airline, so we chatted about that for a bit. He's super helpful and set us up with a courtesy car, pointed us toward a good mexican restaurant, and we were off for lunch.

We came back to fill up on cheap gas.

Then we headed north, dodging a few cells on our way back to FTG. I was hoping to fly through enough rain to wash the bugs off, but instead just got teased. Alex was worn out with a full belly so he got to learn a little about following rest regulations. You have to admire his commitment though, never takes his hands off the yoke. You have to log every minute you can!!!

Re: Aeropod Adventures

Good talking to you on Sunday, glad you got in some quality time with the son. I agree at 4V1 is a nice spot. Cheap gas, friendly service and courtesy cars is always great combo.

Alex is getting BIG, where has time gone.

Re: Aeropod Adventures

I flew the family up to a friends private strip near Sandpoint, ID at the beginning of the month. I tried real hard to bend my airplane landing but go arounds are free and thank goodness for all 520 cubic inches on that one. Anyway, here's a few pics.

Chad and Scott??? I think? (Sorry if I screwed that up guys, my memory is good, it's just short) Father and son team from Spokane flew in a pair of real pretty Cessnas for dinner Saturday night. Scott has owned the 180 for 38 years and I think he said he's on his third engine. Chad flew in with his wife and 2 kids (I love a flying family) and his 182 got off quick fast and in a hurry despite bellies full of ribs after dinner.

I got a few videos of my dad coming and going as well

Our friend Ian did a pass to let us know he needed a ride in from Sandpoint, so my dad went to pick him up.

Re: Aeropod Adventures

Yes you got our names right! Very cool pics and video's from Mike's BBQ. I love that my wife and kids enjoy flying to cool places like that with me and that I'm able to fly next to Dad in his 180. Life is good. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to seeing you and your family again soon.

Re: Aeropod Adventures

Been doing a lot of wrenching on Skywagons and flying Airbus, but not near enough flying my bird. We got a new pup a few months ago and she's starting to listen so I decided we both needed a ride after a week long marathon wrenching.

Sent this pic to BigRenna, he really likes the floral print carseat so I'm sending it to him as soon as my boy outgrows it.
