aerospace logic egt

I have an aerospace logic egt on my io-360 engine. Normally peak is about 1500 degrees. Today, the egt went to 1800 momentarly and then the temp went to cold on the number one cylinder. All other cylinders register nomal on the temps, but the number no remains cold on the reading. The engine seems to run fine, no probs. Any ideas? If there was no combustion happening at all, would i get a huge difference in engine characteristics and know right away?

Re: aerospace logic egt

I'd bet on a broken lead/faulty probe.

Re: aerospace logic egt

EGT probes are just thermocouples (two dissimilar metals that produce a voltage when the junctions are at different temperatures). The two metals are usually alloys, and Type K thermocouples which are usually used for EGT probes have a very high nickel content in both of the alloys used to make them, which unfortunately renders them quite brittle. In other words, what MTV said!
