Does anyone know anything about this aircraft that shows up on google earth? What is it? Is it a crash or did the photo capture an aircraft in flight? Malaspina Glacier West of Yakutat City, AK. It is on imagery from 2007 so not something new.

Interesting find. Looks like it's on the ground, it's casting a shadow. If it's abandoned wreck, and stays on the glacier, it would be interesting to see where it ends up when Google updates it's imagery.

The wingspan is around 50' and length 40', Nominal cabin width around 6' According to GE ruler.

Looks to be a twin, my best guess is that it is ACE Cargo in a 1900.

I don't know about its size and it could be a twin, but it could also be a taildragger on its back. It is indeed a big glacier. I've flown over miles of it and landed at Icy Bay just to the north of where this Google Earth photo of the plane in question is:

More background:
It was located on google earth by a fellow in the Netherlands. He thought it might be an A-20 and contacted the Pueblo Wiesbrod Aircraft Museum thinking they might want to investigate and possibly recover it for a museum.

I copied this information off the matronics kitfox list to see if anyone here could help identify or if anyone knows if it has already been discovered and knows the story behind it.

You might want to contact the Alaska Rescue Coordination Center on Elmendorf AFB. that's near Anchorage. They keep a chart of all known wreckage in the state of AK. I've called in a couple of wrecks that were mapped, and one that wasn't....two fellows missing for thirty years. Ya never know, but if it is mapped they can tell you the type and date.

It's hard to tell what it is. The only airframe that comes to my mind is a B-25 Mitchell but I am far from being an expert.

I sure am curious now though, hopefully someone on here can be more enlightening.

The outline and dimensions look more like a Beech 18 to me.

on second thought, the nose is a little long for an 18..

well I wont be home for another week.. and the 180 is getting a fresh top end on it so it will be down for a couple more weeks. Maybe this summer I can put eyes on it!
