Re: Airport Camping in Arizona?

There was a place, dirt strip on the Colorado river about 35 miles north of Yuma, AZ, Martinez Lake. It seemed to be one of the hot spots during the summer, Lots of 4wd golf carts and boats, with half naked women on them. In the winter it would slow way down so you could have the airstrip to your self.

You can camp at Tuweep, but you can't land there. The strip is closed. Complain to the Arizona State Land Department if you have the novel idea that the public should be able to use public lands.

It's not fun, primitive camping, but there is a developed campground (fee based) at Grand Canyon Caverns. They have a 5100 ft. long airstrip, auto fuel pumps that are probably contaminated with ethanol by now, a restaurant, flush toilets, showers, laundry facilities, etc.

If you've got fat tires, airport camping is on any BLM land!
