I know we're all joking here but I do know this kid and he is a really decent moral guy. All joking aside he would never have done anything like that. The whole reason I posted this was not to open him up to pot shots but just as a call for everyone to watch their local airports carefully.

That really sucks...

Airport security is an issue but it can be taken too far i think. Just before Christmas I took my plane over to Idaho Falls and left it with my Dad. They changed things over there and now you have to have a code and a badge to get to your plane. The gate near where I park used to be left unlocked while the tower was manned but now it is locked all the time...I can't get to my plane unless i take my Dad with me, can't imagine what it would be like for guys passing through. I'd guess they have something setup on the otherside of the airport because that is where the visitors usually go but I don't go over there, it is too busy and you usually have to use that scary big runway. For now they are not charging for the badges but...

That is a real shame that happened savanarts! It is not just the loss of the plane you have to go through. It is the whole risky process of searching and trying to evaluate aircraft all over again.

My understanding that stealing and/or damaging aircraft on an airport is actually a federal offensive. That is a whole different situation that stealing and having the local cops after you.

I am guessing you were parked at Red Baron and the other place was Aeromark ?

Yeah I park at Red Baron and the other place is Aeromark. My old man used to keep his Luscombe at the Baron back when there was no fences and tiedowns were free as long as you mowed the grass you were on.

Hey, look at the bright side. How often do you see a picture like that where it is not the ending of a flight gone bad? Still a bummer.

THAT is what really burns me. We called the feds about this and they said since it was not an "in flight" event they would not be investigating. That it was a matter for local law enforcement. The cops just kept shrugging and saying there wasn't much they could do. You know who really took the ball and ran with it? The fire department! They are the ones that took the evidence. They are the ones looking for fingerprints. God bless 'em. The feds couldn't care less, neither could the cops.

Even though he's going to get his insurance money (I am assuming) it's still a pisser coming out and finding your airplane burnt to the ground no matter how you look at it.

I agree, airport security can be taken WAY too far. There ain't a dang terrorist anywhere near Oakdale (O27), it's the folks looking to sell stuff in the local flea market that we really have to watch out for.

Hey folks, lets go easy on the various 'ethnic' groups, even if it is wearing the cloak of 'humor'. I think most of us would rather not step on toes, and no ethnic group has the corner on the 'undesirable' market. I'm mostly German, and I don't want to be judged by my Nazi 'cousins'. Lets let individuals show their stuff, not pre- judge by 'whatever'.

Probably said too much, again. Anyhow, food for thought.

Humor may not make the world go around, but it certainly cheers up the process... :)

Well thieves come in all colors so I'm not sure which ethnic group you're talking about. No mention was made of ANY ethnic group. Not blasting you, just pointing out the facts.

It's not about skin color at all. It's about some thieving jerks that need to have their butts kicked from the approach end of 28 to well past the departure end of 10.

Sorry to sound so wishy washy. :)

I'm sorry, I thought I read something about 'Jewish lightning', and a followup about 'three Jews' vacationing, or retiring on insurance fraud. Wasn't that on this thread? Sorry. I must have 'gotten lost again......'

Damn compass!

Sorry, maybe it wasn't quite the time or place for a Jewish lightning joke. I did hear it from a Jewish guy though...

Oh, lets get back to the thread at hand.
Svanarts,
Sorry about your friends C150. No plane deserves to die like that, and no owner should have to go through the aftermath of frustration and paperwork, etc.
Sounds like he might have a hard time talking his wife into another one. (did I say 'frustration'? There is a whole 'nother deep layer of it!)

Again, Sorry

Hopefully he can get another plane. I had my dirt bike stolen right out of the back of my truck in May. I still love to ride but dont' really ride enough to justify spending the money on the new one. I was crushed thinking I'd never have a bike again. I got lucky and through the power of the internet I got it back relatively intact. Had it not been for that I would not be riding anymore. I'd hate to see him not be able to fly anymore because of this.

LittleCub: OH! I thought you were referring to my flea-market crack. It's heck getting older. :)

The sad fact is that his wife sees absolutely no use whatsoever for flying a small airplane. She does however see the use of jewelry or a hardwood floor. He would like to build a plane one day but I think for all practical purposes his flying days are over. Very sad.

Kinda same-story here, was married for 31 years, she told me either the plane goes away or she leaves , she hates my plane, went to OSH in 2007, got back a few days later to divorce papers, guess what? Now she wanted 1/2 the plane  :) :? Go figure... anyway we spent 8 months vollying back and forth. In Wyoming it is an equity state, she got her share and I got mine. She left with her 6 year old Subaru, the dog, her bed and some clothes, and a check for her share. I kept the whole shootin match, plane, house, the ranch with a private runway,2WY3.. Life goes on and I try to fly every day..... The BEST therapy in the world. :D :D :D . I am headed out tomorrow in a friends CJ-2 for a few days in Scottsdale for the Barrett/ Jackson auction,, be back soon. 8)

Hey svanarts, encourage him to join the forum! I am sure that will give him a boost!

It is very important to compromise in a marriage. But the key word is "compromise". He just received a devesting blow by having his plane burn up. If his wife doesn't understand how important flying is to him, then he should sit down with her and have a heart-to-heart talk about it. Maybe the compromise is that she gets a little priority treatment now with the understanding that he gets to works towards getting another plane or maybe building one. Unless this guy has been ignoring his wife and being selfish, it is hard for me to believe that a couple in a good marriage can't work something out. If the marriage isn't good, then there are larger issues to deal with.

I really feel for the guy. I hope it works out.

Long time ago wife and I were talking about me taking flying lessons. I argued I might die flying, but the sitting on the couch was killing me for sure. She finally concluded she'd just have to worry about me. Later I started an airplane project. After a couple years of that, she remarked one day that I wasn't getting *any* flying in while working on the project, what would a flying plane cost? When I told her, her thought was that, 'Heck, that's about like buying a car, why don't you go find one?" A day or two later, once I was all jazzed about picking a target and starting the search, she asked, "Does this mean you'll give up the project?" "Um, no, and if that's a condition, I'll just keep working on the project, since that's the plane I *really* want." So, now the Tri-Pe is my engine 'n avionics escrow account. Now she says, "I'll just trust you to let me know if we ever get to the point where we can't afford it." She gets the new cars, I get the hand-me-downs; she gets jewelry and purses, and I get my toys. And love it when she beats me up that I'm not flying enough.

Someone else's ex, not mine -- http://www.siletzbay.com/oddBits/433-0230-MyEx.jpg
