Airstrip near White Bird, ID.??

Anyone know of a strip near White Bird, ID I can land at? I know White Bird is kind of in the middle of Slate Creek and Grangeville, but I thought I'd see if there is a strip closer to White Bird. Thanks - Pat.

Solid maybe.

I could swear I see one up on the east side of the valley about half way up. Not sure though. I'll try to verify it tomorrow if I can get through that way. I'm gonna go up in the 206 and bring my work plane back from Lewiston.
It's not that long of a drive from slate creek and there are tie downs for you and everything there.

Is it safe to park my plane at Slate Creek overnight?

Pat,
I regularly see the helicopters and some planes parked up there unattended. The airstrip really isn't visible from the road and the locals are really nice from my experience. I've left my ride there for the night when I met some family to go rafting in Riggins.
Matt

George,
were ya gonna call me for the ride a long to Grangeville? My other option is boring meetings all day - rescue me, please.

Thanks for your input George and Matt. I'm going to fly up that way to visit a friend this summer. So it sounds like Slate Creek will be my best bet. Probably more fun than Grangeville too  !! I'm not sure exactly where he lives, but he lives near White Bird.

There is no airstrip that I know of near Whitebird. Slate Creek doesn't have any services. I'm pretty sure that Grangeville has a courtesy car, but if that isn't available, Gortsema Motors will rent you one and leave it at the airport for you.

It takes a big man to cry. But it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

Slate Creek is posted in the FLY IDAHO book of G. Hanselman. It gives all the info and pictures. I have landed there once and it isn't bad at all. Bob

I've got that book Fly Idaho. I'll check out Slate Creek. I'm sure I'll take one of my buddies (Super Cub guys) from KEUL with me on my first trip up there. I don't need a car and fuel, so I'm good there.

Me no see.

58,
Sorry I couldn't go up the Salmon the other day. It was too crappy that way. We went on top at 11,500 in the 206 up there, and I went underneath/in back south in Hell's Canyon. I don't think you'll go wrong with Slate Creek.
