Aktahoe - My flying thread UPDATE 10/5

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Flew to my buddies bachelor party...

Good times with a good bunch of rednecks.

Some fun water ops the next morning. I look forward to seeing more photos. Had some cool shoreline shut downs rolling onto the beach as the water went over the wings from the splash. Should make for a neat pic

Very nice photography and of course airplane. Not to mention the water "models"!

Nice photos Kevin.
We are going to be landing in Truckee this evening and spending the weekend. In the Bonanza unfortunately, so no playing this time.

Re: Aktahoe - My flying thread UPDATE 8/16/13

Very nice. But it begs a question:

1. Did you arrange the party to be somewhere you could take your airplane or,
2. Did you realize, "hey, I could land there!"

Either way you can't beat that entrance to the party...

Ney- Yes to both. That is Stampede where we land often.

Here is a new spot that I knew required a bit of H2O for departure.

Yikes! If I did that all you would see would be the top of my wings for a few moments before it would slowly sink out of sight. - Ney

Wow Kevin,
That water departure looks like the real deal. It looks like the tailwheel went in the water when you rotated...........just barely to flying speed.

Is Stampede on the reservoir just to the north east of truckee? When we departed Sunday I noticed that lake and it reminded me of the photos you had posted. Water level looked like it was down a lot.

Re: Aktahoe - My flying thread UPDATE 8/21/13

And now for a different type of post here....

I have been to Burning Man (well flying people out there for the past ten years) but have never made it past the gate at the airport. I have had numerous tickets given to me but really just never had the urge to go inside thinking it was a Hippie fest. Thats not even kinda correct.

I now understand why there is not a soul on the planet who can describe the event. Seriously. I am not even going to try here.

Parked the plane next to Svanarts, taped it up and covered her and disappeared into the unknown beyond the gates of the airport. I owe this trip to BM to my good buddy and photographer that some of you have know, Grant Kaye. He is a builder for the event and has built numerous projects over the past 15 years out there.

Anyway, just home this am after two very long nights of complete chaos and debacle.

I think I will go again next year and the year after that and so on. I can only encourage you to at very least experience it for at least 24 hours. You honestly have no idea what its like until you have been there. I was one of the neigh sayers...

Great photos Kevin, thanks for sharing!! Good idea taping up the plane, looks like the kind of dust that once it gets in a plane, never gets out #-o

Nice pics!

I was planning on flying down to Black Rock City this year but work got in the way. But now you've got me excited to make sure I can make it next year. Maybe we should have a BCP camp amidst the airport camp?

Thanks for your good words! I try hard...we only have one go round at at this life...I have always felt as though there are those that do and those that wish they did. I don't ever want to be the later part. Just be sensible.

Soy- the plane is great. She goes in for her annual on Thursday. Sure wish I was flying more. Life has been taking up most of my time as of late. Between all of the smoke, wind and fog and various events, not to mention my 3 year old, I just have not been able to free myself BUT...I sure do have some gas money saved up!

This is really the best time of year to fly around here so I look to be burning holes in the sky again when I'm done with her check up. I have been flying a little bit but really just to get somewhere.

Re: Aktahoe - My flying thread UPDATED 10/1

Fresh annual and ready to go for another 12 months...

Went to the North Circuit today and got blown out of the mountains only to find myself on the North East circuit down low in the desert. Conditions could not be better. Very dry, dry, dry! Things look to be shaping up for our fly-in here in 3 weeks as the long range weather forecast looks very good. Only had time for this cool little spot today that I have never landed. Not certain what I will call it but Grant and I both had to take a leak so maybe we will call it, "Two Leaks". From the air the desert went from very hard dirt on all of the lake beds to this little lake bed that all of a sudden looked very red from the air and covered with this plant. Made a pass or two so I could decide touch down point, divots etc., and then put her here. It was still very windy but a beautiful little spot. Only two photos today. Back at it tomorrow as the weather is really starting to get nice around here again.

It must have been windy on the mountain. They were towing gliders east all day today out of Minden.

Re: Aktahoe - My flying thread UPDATE 10/1

No wind today and BEAUTIFUL!!! I have not had a flight like today for sometime!

Took a buddy that has been wanting to get in the air and made a great tour today. Down to the east side and back up on the inside. ...I know that does not mean much for most of you but basically went from Tahoe to Mammoth over the White Mts., past the Sweetwater and Pinenut Mts., and around the circuit to some old spots and new ones along the entire route. Landed at a lot of places today... [-X [-o<

Anyhow it was a beautiful morning. Added a couple new ones to the east circuit for the fly in. I wish it were this weekend!

Kyle..."Dude...I have to get a plane. This is just ridiculous."
