Alaska 170's & Powder (No, not the reload kind)

courierguy wrote:....just to be flying along and seeing someone parked somewhere at a new off airport site, off airport as in not landed before or hardly ever. But for sure I'd land in a heartbeat and see whatsup, and if they didn't like it (is that a concern? Screw 'em if so) like that was their own little private off airport site and I wasn't invited or something, I'd takeoff and then land again! But I can't see that ever happening! Like I said, an odd question, OF COURSE I'D LAND, it wouldn't be friendly not to!

Now Tom, if youd've landed at my Alaska off airport site today I'd have been delighted to see you. Especially if youd've had your beacon, probe, shovel and snowboard along. Oh well, just need to go back is all! :D

Re: Bounteous Powder Stash

Phenomenal. Looks like the air temp and sun index combined for a perfect day. Did you go out for a tour from the landing spot? Get any turns in?

I made a late run from work to the ski strip, went out this evening in the Talkeetnas, and found a couple great play spots. If only these conditions could last for a couple weeks more!!!

Care to share a location?...or maybe which side of the 250 miles of runway up there?

Re: Bounteous Powder Stash

Whoo ha, that looks like a great day!
While I sure miss the ski flying and hate taking the wheel skis off, I at least get to put the 29" Airstreaks back on, so the day I make the transition is sad and happy both, ha ha. Making it more confusing is I could ski fly for another month or so, I'd just have to stay above 8K or so and would be limited to just a few spots, meanwhile all my summer time sites at 7K and below are open again, so back on the fatties it is. I really don't need to see your pictures [-X !

Re: Bounteous Powder Stash

Shazaaaammm!!! I should have loaded more fuel today...I would have tried to meet up with you.

I had to go find my own instead, good for a couple quick laps before putting Thing 1 and Thing 2 to bed tonight.

I'm having fun with the panoramic picture feature on this Eye-Phone. I tried to do an enroute cockpit view, but the prop, v-brace, and pillars appeared all so mangled, that I didn't dare post it here for fear of ramp checks!!!

Image

If the weather guessers are right, the Talkeetnas should get another refresh this weekend...I can live with that. Keep the 35-45 degrees, and corn snow coming.

Re: Bounteous Powder Stash

This Ski flying season has been, and still is, great. Lot's of blue skies and light winds intermixed with a snow storm to add some fresh POW.

Ok, this thread sucks!! I was just browsing gun and ammo sites...I see a thread titled "Powder Stash" thinking someone has found someplace that has reloading powder....click on the thread and someone is talking about that stupid white cold stuff...BUZZ KILL!!!
Guess I need to get my head into airplane mode.

Clearly a case of false advertising . . . I clicked to here thinking the same thing. As appealing as all that snow and ski plane looks, availability of smokeless powder, primers and bullets would be a helluva lot more enticing right about now.

Way to go Karl, glad you found a way to get out yesterday! This snow today should help keep us in it for a bit longer.

Fixed the title for the folks who thought they were on BackcountryPacking.org.

Thanks to Zen and Dutch for joining in. Looks like you guys are getting after it! Sure is nice right now. We found very stable snowpack on northern aspects. What are you guys finding?

DP, good on your for employing the Real Man's method of ski binding and technique! I took the liberty of sharing one of your pics on the BCP facebook page.
