A sad day for not only the pilot's family but for the whole tail dragger family. Has anyone in the local area found out the cause for the downer?

All I've heard up here is what has been in the news like that you posted. Apparently he had quite a bit of experience and was very familiar with the area where he went down. I do know that the Lake Clark pass area bites regularly. I assume he was headed for the pass when he went down.
On possible related matters, I hope all goes well with the Iditarod Air Force and no mishaps there. The official restart of the Iditarod was Sunday and the planes were filling the air out of Merrill field today......mostly cubs and 185's on skis went by my window.

I heard the head pilot clipped the trees departing a runway during the race prep. Not sure where it was supposed to have happened
