Hi Kioti,

Welcome to the site- always good to have more northern reinforcements. I'd like nothing more than a good summer get together, but it's probably not in the cards for me- I'm one of those folks that busts a** pretty hard in the summer months. with two lodges to run, that's our show time. Actually, been meaning to leave everyone here a note that if you don't hear much out of me for a few months, it ain't that the love's gone cold- I'm just keeping busy, like a lot of folks do up here in summer time.

To answer your question, though, I fly a 170B out of Kantishna and in the winter I'm out of a private strip on the Parks Hwy near the entrance of Denali. If you do plan a fly in- I'd appreciate knowing about it. I might even make it, if it's at my home strip, or if it's between midnight and 2:00 AM

Howdy,

I fly a 170B too, I'm Denalipilot's neighbor, my plane is finishing up an annual from hell ™ and should be flying next month sometime. Would love a weekend get-together on a gravel strip longer than 1500 feet somewheres.

Hi, my name is Bob, and I have a..... Champ. Based in Anchorage, and wouldn't mind heading to a gathering or two this summer.

For you Denali guys, where is the preferred spot for landing up there ? The strip at the park entrance, near the railroad depot ? Or that other little strip a few miles South along the Parks ?

Hasta ~

I'm down here by Shane, next to Glacier Bay. I too would like to see some more of Alaska some day. Right now I don't have time and can't afford the gas for the 180 anyway. And the cub is too damned slow. :D

Pat in Anchorage. Unfortunately I broke it and I'm walking..... Ground loops should really be described as "It sucks to be me........" -especially when there is a prop strike. I did learn that BAS inertia reel harnesses are worth every penny you pay for them.

Definitely the McKinley Park strip (PAIN/ INR) near the train depot. There are at least three or four transient tie-downs (bring ropes), and you can visit the park, get food, whitewater raft on the Nenana, pose as a hotel guest and ride one of the courtesy shuttles to Glitter Gulch, etc...

The strip south of there is private, and it would be good if folks would please respect that and not drop in unannounced. Summer flightseeing traffic makes it especially busy there, and there is no transient and no services. Wonderful folks there, they're just not in the business of running a public airport. Please respect that.

The highway itself has been known to work in a pinch, between ski and wheel season, but look out for the power lines

Another Alaskan member here. I'm based in Talkeetna, Wasilla, or Kotzebue depending on the time of year. I fly a Pacer.

Based out of North Pole here. I fly an old straight back C-150. Currently in the shop getting all the old wiring replaced and the panel spruced up a bit. Should be back in the air in a couple weeks though.

I've flown into McKinley (INR) a few times. I'd be up for a get together there.

AKgrouch, please tell me that wasn't the Buzzard that ground looped? :(

OK, it wasn't......no. It really was the Buzzard. :(

Yesterday, I was riding in a 182 with a friend near the Birchwood Airport. I could see it sitting on a trailer with the wings off and about to be hauled away. Estimate, not counting what might be found after the prop strike inspection was about 42K...... Sure didn't look like it would be that bad, but.......

Right now, it kinda sucks to be me......

Based in Seldovia (PASO/SOV) during the summer, but not in town until the end of June this year. Will be flying my son's 170B instead of the 185 and will probably bring it south in September.

If anyone flies into SOV for July 4th, post a PM to me and look me up.
