Alaska-Montana-Alaska

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Alaska-Montana-Alaska

Great video Phil!

I just watched the whole thing. I especially liked being able to see some of the strips down the trench. It gives me an idea of what to expect. I've always gone to Ft. Nelson and down the east side of the mountains since the 170 didn't have the range to comfortably fly the trench route. Now with my new ride I have more options....... :D I expect to be flying south for the winter probably about mid-September.

It looked like there was not only no fuel an Ingenika but no people either. Anyone at the airport if a stranded pilot needed anything?

Re: Alaska-Montana-Alaska

Thanks folks.

There is a native family living at Ingenika, and there is a Jet A tank, but no one could remember when the last time is was used. And they've never been aware of any Avgas there. I've never seen a gravel strip that long, 6,000 feet, and well maintained. Must be used as a fire fighting base when needed. Would make sense with the lake right there.

It's 342 km from Watson Lake to Mackenzie with no fuel in between. Although with so many strips located in and around the upper trench I suspect there are unpublished fuel sources if you get introduced to the right people, like we have up here.

I'll be flying down to Texas probably the week of Sept 17 to prep for the TX STOL Roundup and will leave the 185 in Texas for the winter so I've got some transportation down there Jan & Feb. Then fly it back up in April. If it works out Keith we ought to fly south together, at least to the U.S.
