Alaska, SE 2017.06.14 Video is here!!!

Started North to Alaska today. Flew up the Oregon, Washington Pacific Coast. Then East of Olympic National Park to KCLM. I'm at the All View Motel on HWY 101 in Port Angels, WA.

Were these unusual (to me) waves stacked on the ocean. Looked like a mini tsunami? Estimated height about 3-5'. Never seen the likes before?

Oregon Coast is gorgeous:

Fuel at Aberdeen, WA. Folks were friendly there:

I was invited into several hangars for coffee and cookies. Really nice guys at KCLM. FBO is wonderful too.

Great day for sure! I can see for 70+ Miles!

Where did you fly?

Re: Alaska trip KONP...PAGS day (5) 1st glaciers!

Called Temsco Helicopters PAPG, very friendly and have 100LL right here. Today is a down day. Walked around town and marina. Love this town. Everybody is really nice and well kept.

METAR: raining low visibility mountain obscuration. The AWOS-3 reporting MVFR but I am not flying, looks dangerous for VFR this morning;

Temperature/Dewpoint spread is low from San Diego to Dutch harbor. "The Pacific Ring of Fire" is now the "The Pacific Ring of Fog/Rain" for today!

NEWS from home arrived!!!
My wife went to watch the Hokulea arrive back home. The Hokulea is home after (3) years around the world! Nainona Thompson, a friend of mine, is the leader of the expedition! She sailed in front of our berth!

Wait! That never happens here

Glad you are able to relax and enjoy the trip. There are a lot worse places to get stuck than Petersburg. If you get to head up this way, Burners Bay, just north of Juneau is usually the sticky spot. Definitely want to pay attention to the reporting points along the way, lots of traffic around Juneau and along Lynn Canal.

I love Petersburg! Called my wife and advised we are moving here! Then, I was politely reminded that we needed to earn money in Honolulu first!

Well Sir, I will take you up on the offer to get Fuel in Skagway. Whitehorse and Atlin would be fabulous but, my range is very limited and PAGY is my only option for 100LL.

Thank you for the local guidance. I have been talking to pilots and mechanics throughout the trip and am learning a freeeking ton of knowledge!! I am so humbled to be here. It's a completely different world than the lower 48 and 50th states!

In Alaska, "Don't Push the Weather"! The beauty has lured many pilots to their demise.

SE is really pretty! I can't believe the amount of glaciers and icebergs at this latitude!

I'm thinking about staying at a USFS cabin at one of the many lakes on Admiralty Island. Tom Bass's website is amazing!

Re: Alaska trip KONP...PAGS day (6) Admiralty Is. ?

Folks @ Temsco Helicopters, Petersburg are very nice and provided 100LL. Today is R/R. Nothing scheduled just relaxing and thinking about nothingness. You can really get in touch with yourself in Alaska. Anyway, Hoonah has been without fuel for several months (per the State Maintenance man on field). Luckily there is PAGS for 100LL.

Today is the longest day of 2017! Welcome to Summer!

Summer solstice 2017 in Northern Hemisphere will be at 8:24 PM on
Tuesday, June 20 All times are in Alaska Time.
