The airport used to be on the sectional and was open to the public. The land was owned by my friend and former boss. He's also the guy that taught me to fly. The Kelly's own the junkyard looking property across the road. They used to run a crop dusting operation and operated out of there. Then, some time ago, my friend sold the land to them. If I remember correctly, liability and/or some requirements to keep it open to the public persuaded him against keeping it. He then had it removed from the sectional. Don't quote me on that. It's been too long ago. Anyway, the original length made it a long runway, but you can see on Google Earth that what has been maintained is much shorter, but still long enough. My understanding is that it is privately owned by the Kellys. It's a bit of a walk into town, but there now is a gas station near the west end. The last time I drove by, there was a Cessna parked next to the old hanger. It was hard to tell if it has been recently used, but if they were careful, it looked like they might be able to taxi around all the junk and get to the runway.
At one point I had thought about putting a house on that west end and buy the strip from my friend. That's when I learned that he didn't own it anymore. I worked as a ranch hand during high school on all that land south of the strip. Lots of good memories. And only 7 miles from where I grew up.
