almost the widow maker

I'm postin this for general info in hopes it will get us old farts and maybe a few younger ones thinking... three days ago I got a call from my Ex who informed me my oldest, and only remaining son, was in the hospital in NY... seems he went to work, as I have stated before, he's a detective in the Bronx. As the day wore on he began experiencing chest pains which progressed to arm and shoulder pains, to jaw pains and finally tingling in his fingers... classic symptoms of course but he was in denial till another detective noticed him and asked if he was ok... they rushed him to the hospital and long story short he had 97 percent blockage on his left anterior decending artery... the one supplying the heart and known as the widow maker.... so at age 44 he has now had a stint put in and seems as good as new... he says he can't believe the energy he has.. when he walks he sort of high steps picking his feet up higher than he needs to using way more effort than he now needs to just walk... so guys, pay attention to those little warnings before they become huge warnings... He's still coming to JC this summer on the 19th of July and I'll pick him up at Boise.. I think he needs a vacation this year... =D>

Re: almost the widow maker

Butch, I'm glad your son is doing well now. I look forward to seeing you guys in July. Your right about listening to the signs of heart problems. Listen to your body!

My flying partner and bro n law died of a heart attack at 46 back in 2007. He had symptoms, went to his doctor, and was told go see a cardiologists. He said ok I'll go next week :(

Iceman, glad your boy is OK.

Got a personal campfire story about 100% blockage of the LAD. I'll just add: don't count on pain or any of the other classic symptoms to give you a heads up. It can be completely painless and just like going to sleep - forever. When it happens, if you aren't in the right place at the right time, it's gonna create a widow in four minutes. More like a lightning bolt in some ways.

Oh, yeah, and don't take any comfort in a perfect set of numbers for things like cholesterol, BP, heart rate, BMI, weight or whatever. Without drilling into your heart, your cardiologist would miss it all the day before the event. Scary but true.

Butch...... Glad your son is doing well. I'm starting to think myself that I need to start laying off the cheeseburgers, fries and Krispy Kreme donuts :(

And not being afraid or scared to go in for a full in depth check up besides just the regular DOT/FAA Physical.

Thanks for sharing that.
