Re: Alvord desert

Bump.
Really great pics!
I'll bring this thread back to the top only because an invite from a member said that on Aug 25-27 of 2016 with be the Alvord Fly Out.. It's a no host event to watch the meteor showers in a no moon sky at night.

Here is a pic of a Glider event at Alovord that you can see on G-Earth. Looks like a great time.

Re: Alvord desert

Are there any other dry lake beds in OR that are legal to land on? Curious, Alvord is great - go at least once a year.

Re: Alvord desert

We spent several days flying at the Alvord last year during mid Sep. Winds from the west over the Steens Mtns created these spectacular wave clouds over the Alvord.

Wow, I have seen something new and amazing every time I have bee out there. Here is a rough draft for a stained glass pattern I drew up for a friend we took out there in the 185. That was thirteen years ago...can't wait to see it when its done!

CFOT, that is going to be cool. Make sure to post a picture of the finished product. I'll bet it's going to be beautiful!

Hey Blade Runner: What meteor shower runs Aug 25-27? The Perseid meteor shower is the big one in the summer and it runs August 11-13 in 2016. The moon will be about half full then so only the bright meteors will be visible. The Orionids appear the night of October 21, and the Leonids peak on November 16. I just don't know of anything happening at the end of August. I do like the idea of visiting the Alvord during a meteor shower with a new moon.
