http://www.discoveringhawaii.com/Drivin ... sland.htmlCut and paste or whatever....then scroll down to the VJ day video and watch. The author's father took this film with a home movie camera in Honolulu on VJ day. 65 years later his son had it enhanced and sound added.
A rare priviledge to peek back into history and share the moment with real people. Hard to believe that all those handsome guys and pretty gals are now in their late 80s or no longer with us. Youth....life is fleeting. Enjoy each day. Honor those who have gone before us.
P.S. Looks like you can just click on the link here. Gives me goosebumps!

"Colin
We were excited to heli in Silverton — until we saw the bird. Looking like something your stoner uncle built in the garage out of four Meccano sets, a fish tank, and an AMC Pacer, this helicopter seats a pilot plus two only, making it a tricky vehicle, logistics-wise, when your group has 8 people in it. One generation's sacrifice is the next one's gift. The appreciation for that gift is reflected in how it is used.
My father in law is gone now but he went ashore on Omaha Beach on D Day. He never let a Memorial Day or Veterans Day go by that he didn't remind the family of this simple fact.

Lynn Sanderson (Dirtstrip) passed away from natural causes in May 2013. He was a great contributor and will be missed dearly.
Thanks for sharing that. I'm so proud to serve in their footsteps.

Thanks so much for sharing that.... It scares the crap out of me everyday seeing what is happening with my generation. Watching this makes me want to turn my truck around and kick the kids in the nuts that have to use both hands to hold up their pants when they are walking down the street.
