Hey BRD, that yellow/blue Scout looks to be on Wipline amphibs. Haven't seen that before. 150 lbs over the straight floats, 400 lbs overall. Some of the corporate/government stuff around here was on amphib (I flew both amphib and straight Wiplines), but to earn a living you couldn't afford the loss of payload for the minor benefit. Not to mention insurance for steely-eyed agents that are too well aware of the things that can go wrong with amphibs.
I flew a Scout one summer on straight floats, dropping into the all-girl college by a lake. Loved that airplane....could have been that time in my life as well.

Have to laugh as I've never seen a Scout on straight floats around here!
Floatplane + all girl college by the lake = whoa... jealous!

Scouts work well on Lake Tahoe. 6500' MSL. DA can be over 9000' in the summer.

Notice the rudders are down too, looks like it just washed up to shore. That deal would require more than a case of beer in penance.

might have been there for a while.
Keel looks like it's sunk in to the sand a bit.
And the prop is bent
Looks to be a pic from a video while engine is running possibly???

I see what you are saying...
* Thought that maybe a 3 blade but it looks like a bent 2 blade
* Rudders could get bent if, not up
* I guess wind is side-shore
I may have put gear down just in case of a hidden rock

5 seconds prior the nose was pointed off shore for engine start. As you can imagine the wind picked up and shifted (if you have Tahoe time you'll know that the winds and white caps get nasty by 1430 hours) and a prolonged start caused a beaching. Good times up at Tahoe!

I know people use scouts for towing , but around here a gcbc(though 150) was considered a dog for heavier gliders. To me gcbc performed super when solo.Extremely light controls and would climb out with a fraction of power. But so does the 90 horse champ. Load it , and it becomes a whole different game.
One big advantage of a champ/scout is the visibility and cabin, no comparison with a cub, roomy and you can see over the nose, easily.
And my question:
What are the common issues with Scouts?I'm looking at one that sat for years considering rebuilding it.The plane looks really good but wasn't annualed for a long time.

The wing spar issue is what I hear about more than anything on the Champs. I think one would make a good plane.
If anyone knows of a good Champ for sale on floats let me know. I know someone that is looking. Not a lot of them listed right now, probably because it is off season.

Had a friend selling a really nice one back when I purchased my Maule, probably should have taken a closer look...
How is the baggage loading? Is there a door? Double baggage door is my favorite feature of the M7.
Also, what is a "Super" Scout? Is that the regular name or does it mean something different? Maybe different term for a Denali Scout??
