Amphibious Ops on Ramps
Share tips, techniques, or anything else related to flying.

Being new to the world of amphibious floats, before attempting to climb a ramp I’d like to get some of your sage advice on what to and not to do. I’ll be operating a MX7-235 on EDO 2500As.

Don't run a wing into a piling. Seen that done at our local marina by an ols duffer in a SeaBee. Doh!

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!
I've seen a number of ramps where the concrete pads have separations between them and have wide gaps between them that would swallow an 8" tire, OK for a 14 - 16" boat trailer, but not an amphib. tire......

Well what the book says has always worked for me. Approach the ramp slowly and just before touching a burst of power with full aft elevator and then power as required to get on up. But like the previous posts mentioned, make sure the ramp is suitable.......Ron

And once you are on the ramp, DON'T hold full up elevator. Steep ramps and up elevator can put you on your tail.
Have your mechanic double check the downlocks on all four. I've seen downlocks that didn't quite hold right in water, and collapse a gear. A pain, but not a disaster.
Just take it easy coming into the ramp. People have done this millions of times and it's no big deal.
