Anchorage Area Parking ?

I am considering a Job offer (non flying) in Anchorage this summer. I have never been there. Anyone know the situation for parking a wheeled airplane in the area either on the ramp or hanger rents? I am pretty close to my commercial Airplane and I have a commercial Helicopter rating, what are the prospects for weekend work flying there? Should I get any ratings before heading up there or get them while there to build AK time at the same time?

Thanks in Advance.

For tie down info at Anchorage International, go to this website:

http://dot.alaska.gov/anc/business/generalAviation/index.shtml

You can download a diagram of the parking areas at ANC. You can also email Susan who will give you all the info about parking there. I just talked to her and she said there are tie down spaces available, both on the pavement and on the gravel at the Lake Hood Strip.

I don't have any info for Merrill Field. You might prefer that area if you live / work closer to that side of town.

I am surprised there are tie downs on Lake Hood strip. Used to be a several year waiting list. If they are available it is the best and easiest airport for getting in and out without lots of traffic etc.

Keep the shiney side up and the dirty side down...

kg, tell Susan that John from Coshocton says hi. She has taken care of me as far as temporary parking goes at Hood strip several times.

There is plenty of ramp tie down space in and around Anchorage. You might want to get out of the big city and park at Birchwood, Wasilla, or Palmer. These are much nicer places to stage out of.

Monthly rental for ramp space varies from about $25/month up to $45, and hangar space goes for about $300/mo up to $500 if you can find it.

Here are the airport designagers for the following airports: Anchorage International (PANC), Lake Hood (Z41), Merrill (PAMR), Birchwood (PABR), Palmer (PAAQ), and Wasilla (PAWS).

The long waiting list at Lake Hood is for float plane slip space. It is easier to get into wheel tie down space either at Lake Hood or at Anch. Int. where you can taxi over to the Lake Hood airstrip.
