Does anybody have any information about the Bethal Skid Airstrip in Alaska? Any photo's?

Thanks,

I lived/flew out of Bethel way more than I wanted to, and I never heard of a "Bethel Skid" as an airstrip.

Now, all our C207's had a skid on the tail, is that what they're talking about?

If Alaska was a pair of skivvy shorts, Bethel would be the skid mark!!!

Remember the bump at Hooper Bay? I used to watch the Hercs and DC-6's go in there, and could never figure out why it didn't rip the gear off the bottom of those bigger airplanes.

The skid strip being referred to may be the gravel Rwy 11-29 @ Bethel (BET).

And Kong, Kwig, and the old strip at Eek... Just add mud, snow, darkness and a howling wind. Oh boy what fun.

Yup... You learned how to fly in ground effect over the tundra. In the dark, on the gauges. I really don't miss those days.

hahahahahahahahahahah damn, nothing compares to flying out of bethel

just a few months ago, it was 300 n unlimited vis, i had some amature passengers in my 180 and we sat there for about an hour and half, #1 for departure while we waited for IFR traffic

The pass'x'rs were munching and drinking their snacks...lol lets just say there was no way i was turning bak off the ramp....a few hours later, we had every damn 207 from wherewhere in back of us.....when we finally got cleared, i was soo happy, got to MCG 2.5 hours later.....no way was i stopping in Aniak to have them take a br break....they lasted until MCG and "thank god" there was a bar there....went home the next day after a nice hangover....

And that's just the fun flying there. The REAL fun part is living there in a pilot house. Bunk beds, no water, honey buckets, drunks puking everywhere!!! A dream come true.
