Has there ever been an electrically-controlled variable pitch prop for any certified aircraft?

I think the earliest Bonanzas were equipped with electrically adjustable props that evolved into a true constant speed mechanism. But I’ve not seen one. Just read about them.

Looks like one of those rare instances where it’s approved on cubs in another country but not the USA.

I’m very curious how it’s controlled, a rheostat on the panel and slip rings like an electric deice boot? How much current does it draw? Is it a true constant speed or an inflight adjustable pitch?

There are a couple FAA STC’d electric props (look for the MTV-18) for a 172 and PA-28.

I’m thinking about buying this for my new 175hp O-300.

Talked to a guy who flight tested it and was offered a field approval but wanted an STC.

One controller version has a constant speed function. Uses brushes.

Let's say there's an STC for the MTV-15 on your bird, but none for the MTV-17, so you decide to try for a field approval using data from the -15, or similar approvals of the -17 on similar airframe/engine combos.

Chance of success? How useful is EASA data in a FAA field approval?

Electric controlled prop is available by STC for Grumman Tiger O-360 engine.
