Anybody been into 73CA (Bear Valley STOL) recently?

I was hoping to fly there Thursday morning, July 3rd, if weather and winds were favorable.

The airnav contact information is stale.

I have not been there and, although there was one pause, nobody I have asked has admitted to flying in there.

A friend has a cabin down the road 2000' elevation and, weekend before last, he said might do a low pass over it to check it out. I've yet to get the report. I thought it would be fun to hike over to the general store and buy whatever drink and or food to round out a lunch. That strategy worked out really well at Hyampom.

I've only heard rumors, but the rumors are that the locals don't want the airport used. Let us know what you find out.

Don't get your hopes up for permission. A friend and I went to school with the owners son and they won't even let us go there. They don't seem to let too many people land. But good luck. I would like to here what it's like.

Thanks for the replies.

I doubt that the locals need worry about small airplanes swarming to the airport.

Anyway, I sure don't expect permission if someone acquainted with the family can not get permission.

There are lots of other great places to go to: Shelter Cove and Sierraville are the first to spring to mind as deserving a return visit.

There appear to be rock X's at both ends that have been there a long time.

If you're in that area Red Hills is a much friendlier place to visit. It's not on the charts. Let me know if you want to visit. There's a liability waiver involved but two of the nicest old folks you'll ever want to meet live there and love airplanes.
