Anyone recognize this seat stop?

Image

Saw this in one of the photos on the Mountain Wave cargo net site that bmurrish sent around. The black and red thingie looks like a lever-actuated clamp for a seat rail. I've currently got the kind with the thumb screw- works, but chews up the top of the seat rail. Anybody know more about the item in the photo?

Thanks,

-DP

I have a set of these and they work good. Haven't really needed them, therefore when I say they work good, I mean they are easy to use and provide a very positive seat lock. They install in minutes.

I tell passengers about them and why it is there, they usually forget by the time the flight ends.

I have them in a 205 and they are great. Very easy to use and effective when you need them.

Hey, Flat Country Pilot,
You have any time to go shoot a pheasant with a fellow aviator?

This site is great. Thanks for the responses.

So do you guys find that the Aerostops do not mar the seat rails? That is my only complaint about the Saf-T-Stops below:

Thanks,

Re: Anyone recognize this seat stop?

Simon,

I use them, if you would like to see it them sometime. Have for about two years. I haven't noticed them marring the seat rails yet - so long as you are judicious in the amount of camming force you use to tighten them up (enough to hold a seat, but not too much) I wouldn't imagine they would.

Edit: Of course it is in Fairbanks at the moment. Oops #-o

Yes! Need to work Monday, but can squeeze out a morning or afternoon until deer gun opens.
Our pheasant numbers are down so shooting hasn't been the best, but the hunting is fun. Iv'e been hunting ducks more because the sloughs have water again and there are alot of ducks this year. Plus my dog loves the water.

No, I haven't noticed, last time I looked. I will look again.

I see marks on the tops of the rails from the Aerostops, but don't think it harms anything - just marks and not sharp ones. The end of the lever is like a cam. The Mountain Wave tiedowns are meant for the threaded shaft to go into the hole on the top of the rail. He has instructions on the size hole to drill if the rail does not have one. It really isn't made to function as a seat stop although it would, but the end of the shaft is like the end of a bolt, so I'm sure it would leave a big mark like the Saf-T-Stop job does.

Re: Anyone recognize this seat stop?

I use the Aerostops and they are great. When you order they have two different sizes, one for Cessna rails and one for McFarlane rails. So make sure to order the right ones or they won't fit properly. Also you might be interested in the seat stops made by Aero Twin as a final stop. They don't scar the rails like the small hoop style do. See them at http://www.aerotwin.com/products/cessna_seat_stop.html

Re: Anyone recognize this seat stop?

I have had the Aerostops for several years with no discernable damage to the seat rails.
One word of caution. Do NOT run them ALL the way up to the back or your seat.
If, you crash, and need to get out, and are not able to reach the seat stops because of all the junk that has crammed forward, you will not be able to swing your legs out past the door post.
Leave them back some six to eight inches or so. Enough to get your legs out.
The idea of the stops is to keep you from ending up in the cargo area. Some of us do not have rear seats.
Try it out, till you know you can get out.
