Arctic Plunge

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Arctic Plunge

This is a placeholder for later this week...

Taking a 2-day trip to Barrow to jump in the Arctic Ocean and see some sights along the way. I'm finally (after 25 months) coming out of the most demanding job I've ever had and this trip is meant to blow off some steam and actually get out and do something "once in a lifetime" while we still get to stay in Alaska. I'll be going with my wife, dad, and my friend who's flying us in his TU206.

I still have to pull out the Alaska Supplement and make sure there's no restrictions that I'm not tracking. It's going to be a blast!

Re: Arctic Plunge

I'm super excited about it! The water will be pretty cold no doubt, but what percentage of the US population has the opportunity to jump in the Arctic Ocean?

We might adjust and swing further east to Barter Island to see the calving grounds. Still in the planning stages but it works out for fuel, anyhow.

Re: Arctic Plunge

Last August, the week before we got to Tuktoyaktuk, it had the warmest temperatures in Canada, mid 80s. A week of clouds and 20 knot winds cooled the outside down and chased away the mosquitoes which had supposedly chased people between their houses and their cars. The water was still much warmer than the Pacific near me (Half Moon Bay).

I've done the Barrow Arctic Ocean plunge -- and once was enough. Don't stay in too long or you'll freeze your knarlies off.
