What is the basis for this statement?

One of the articles posted here at some point mentioned that lead levels around airports still test above the epa limits (which themselves are increasingly thought of as being too high). I'd be happy to see other evidence.

This isn't the one I was remembering, but it does deal with lead and airport proximity.

To your point, this article doesn't have kids testing *high* for lead, only *higher*.

I'd like to see AOPA and EAA get involved with real commitment pushing congress to ease ethanol legislation allowing for 91 (or 93) octane no ethanol fuel for wide distribution. There is a significant market for it outside of aviation including boats, small engines, off road motorcycles and four wheelers, etc. It is my feeling that AOPA seems more focussed on the high $$$ end of the aviation crowd than on the smaller engine piston crowd. I don't know if they feel it would divide membership by being perceived as backing off support for 100LL until a suitable replacement is produced or what. Could be wrong on that though.

How about a steady push from our end on AOPA and EAA from those interested in burning no ethanol mogas or pump gas. For me it's a solid $2.00 per gallon difference between no ethanol pump gas and 100LL.

I happened to stop by the one place in Poky that sells all three grade of E0, just when the tanker was there. I bs'd with the driver, he says they get the fuel out of Bozeman, and that was pretty much all he knew, that and he uses it in his chopper.

I also needed gas in my econobox Toyota, and noted the price with my slight discount I get at the Maverick was 3.52 for reg, E10. Now, I had my two 5 gallon + bushbags with me, and on a whim, I filled one with the E10, and then on my way outa town went by the E0 place and got 5 gallons there, dumping both in the plane (E5 I guess) as I am flying to SLC tomorrow, was in town anyway, and my home bulk tank will last a little longer. An interesting price spread, a high of $3.96 to a low of $3.52, and from behind the control stick it's all good! I got the E10 as it will be burned tomorrow, and since I have no problems with it on a xc, figured why not buy some local and save a few cents? And that 31 cent difference between the 91 and the 85 octane will save me 93 bucks the next time I fill the 300 gallon tank, significant. I also tested both for ethanol content, and they were both correct, one 10%, one clear.Image

Probably posted here before, but, a good, easy yes-no test for ethanol contamination is to add a couple of drops of food coloring to your sample.

The food coloring is water based and will combine with the ethanol, but not fuel. So if the color sinks to the bottom you're negative. If it dissolves, coloring the sample, you have a positive for ethanol contamination.

Dredging up an old thread about unleaded aviation gas.....
The stickers I got with a recently purchased EAA mogas STC, as well as one I got back in 2008, both include as approved fuel "82 UL aviation gasoline per ASTM spec. D-6227 (color purple)". Probably 8 or 10 years ago, this 82 UL was being talked about and was gonna be the next big thing-- specifically formulated due to the need for unleaded aviation fuel. What ever happened with that?

I know a guy in Paullina, Iowa that has done extensive testing of all sorts different Eth blends in an O470. I saw his pristine looking spark plugs and saw all kinds of rubber samples in number 10 cans scattered around the shop. Nothing scientific but I could not see anything wrong with ethanol in an airplane accept that it was not approved.

Cannot say who it is cus I was sworn to secrecy. He make good spaghetti but his hot mush could use some improvement. :D

All last century, I put the gas from the pump down town in O-540s in Pawnees and Callairs. When they started putting corn in it, I kept using it anyway. Always had much, much cleaner plugs than the lead fouled plugs in 100LL eating pipeline Cessnas. The C-152 engine, that was supposed to eat 100LL well, was the worst.
