Austin NV 2016

Austin NV 2016

Last weekend was the annual Austin Fly-in hosted by Joe Pops Dory. Austin is 100 miles East of Fallon in the middle of nowhwhere on Hwy 50. I decided to drive this year so I could take all my toys with me and my nice camp set up and try to pay it forward to the guys who flew in after someone who drove in to Osh took great care of us. I brought a bunch of craft beer and enough food to feed an army. I bought a new lens for camera right before going and I'm still learning how to use it but I got some pretty decent shots. Great weekend with Great folks.

Austin is really in the middle of nowhere

IFR...pretty much how HWY 50 looks for over 100 miles between Fallon and Austin

Trent's awesome KF 5 with a Zipper Kit and Airmaster prop. Not even in the same league as my airplane not even close

Plenty of dry lakes in the area to play on

180HP Pacer was very impressive

Kevin Quinns SQ2. This thing is simply a monster.

Hal Stockman and his S7 is the guy who does the 912 Zipper kit. Of course in true Hal style he flew every kid there.

SLATS!

Logans first ever airplane ride...and in an SQ2 with the doors open. What an experience for the little guy.

Where else can you see a Wilga and SQ2 in formation?

Re: Austin NV 2016

Even more sorry I missed it Joey! I was recovering (still bleeding, literally) from get bucked off my bike. I WAS planning on letting whoever wanted to ride my latest high powered e bike, (you especially) I was bringing with me, oh well. Good report and great pics, let's hope Pops doesn't get his feelings hurt....... "in the middle of nowhere!" Not likely, that's a compliment in my neighborhood.

This is my first post on BCP in a long time. I have to say I was pretty disappointed that there hasn't been a trip report thread initial posting since May. What has everyone been doing all summer?

I think this has a lot to do with the fact that many of the TR posters have their ow dedicated threads now. So they/we just keep adding to them instead of creating new threads.

Avid
Thanks a bunch for the pics. Lets me feel like I was there without getting heatstroke. Often had the fantasy
of being able to just stand in the shade to watch and listen. As to your question - Online seminars on the definitions and vernacular semantics of flying nap of the earth under various undulating demands. :D

It is better to be late in this world, than early in the next.

Re: Austin NV 2016

Great photos! I really liked the Logans with the 'thumbs up'! It's been a long time since I last visited Austin NV. I think I was on my way on Hwy 50 from Delta to Reno when my engine blew up about 75 miles east. NOWHEREville!. Problematic, but C' est la vie'! Maybe next year is time for another visit (by air) this time.

Re: Austin NV 2016

The past two summers we’ve had to operate out of Austin on short notice....(tankers). Sorry I missed the fly-in, would have been fun.

Great pictures...
