I can't read the words "auto pilot" without thinking of that scene in the movie AIRPLANE :D

What is this, an Archer??? It needs bushwheels whatever it is, these people got lucky!! The cause really doesn't make sense if you know the area....

Oh, it makes perfect sense if it happened as reported. #-o

1) Climb out on a dark night in the mountains.
2) Turn on the autopilot to do the actual flying.
3) Sit back and impress your girl.
4) Not actually have the skills to make the flight without the autopilot....
5) Hit the mountains because you can't see them in the landing light.

A JFK Jr kinda deal, except JFK Jr would probably be alive if he'd a pushed the auto button.

good hell, hit the mtn in the dark, and live..! do like my auto though, and it has saved my butt a time or two....

i've done the idaho falls to boise in the dark a few times, sounds like that pilot should have just kept south bound for a couple of more minutes then turned west when off the ground in hailey...

From the Airbus Crash thread.............. Watching this video for the full 25.32 minutes is worth it if your interested in these types of subjects.
